Sony gives fans an idea of how long the PS5 controller battery life will be. The company officially revealed the PS5 DualSense controller yesterday, confirming that it will be a big change from the design of the DualShock 4 and will offer several new features.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Hideaki Nishino, the senior vice president of platform planning and management, said that the PS5 team has taken "thoughtful consideration into ways to maintain a strong battery life for DualSense’s rechargeable battery." While Nishino's comments don't outwardly confirm how long the controller's battery life will be, the use of the word "maintain" seems to suggest that it will comparable to the battery life of the PS4's DualShock 4 controller.

That controller can last between four to eight hours on a single charge in tests though many players report that in their use, the DualShock 4 battery life is much closer to around four to five hours. Fans will have wanted the PS5 controller to have a longer battery life than that but Sony could make things easier by offering a longer charging cable or by selling a controller charging dock.

However, this potential battery life could be much shorter if players choose to use the DualSense's new features. One of the new features on the PS5 controller is the Create button which is a change from the Share button on the DualShock 4. This new Create button will give players more ways to share their gameplay clips, says Sony. Sony hasn't confirmed all of its features but if it will be used to stream to more sites or will offer more ways to edit gameplay videos, players could get a huge amount of use from it.

The DualSense's headphone jack and built-in microphone array could also potentially use up the controller's battery faster. One of the only confirmed PS5 launch titles is Godfall, which has multiplayer and players will likely get huge use out of the controller's audio features as they communicate to others in the game.

Sony has only confirmed a few things about its console such as the PS5's specs and now, it has revealed the PS5 controller design and some of its features. There are so many questions that fans have like how much the console and these controllers will cost, which games will use the controller's haptic feedback features, and what its battery life will be. There are months until the PS5 launches in holiday 2020 but fans don't want Sony to keep them waiting for long before giving them some answers.

The PlayStation 5 is planned to launch Holiday 2020.
