A few days ago, a so-called industry insider claimed that the PlayStation 5 couldn't handle native 4K resolution. Other individuals didn't waste time jumping on the rumor and spreading it around as a fact, claiming that they too had insider knowledge that confirmed it as such. However, any worried PS5 fans can rest assured that these claims aren't true.

According to a developer with actual hands-on experience with the next-generation console, Teamkill Media, the PlayStation 5 can run at 4K 60fps. The studio is actually currently running its cosmic-horror shooter, Quantum Error, at 4K 65-70 FPS on the system, and as a result, it has no worries that the PlayStation 5 won't be able to handle 4K 60fps.

The clarification comes from an argument on Twitter. User Winged_Wild claimed that third-party developers couldn't hit 4K resolution at 60fps using the PlayStation 5. When asked to provide a statement of a third-party developer saying such a thing, Wild cited TeamKill Media, saying the studio claimed it was struggling just to get Quantum Error to hit 4k at 30 FPS. Teamkill, however, immediately denied ever having stated this.

It is worth noting that the individual who started this PlayStation 5 rumor, DuskGolem, admitted that they were lying about it over on the gaming forum ResetEra. Further questioning poked holes in their statement, and they eventually confessed that they made the whole thing up in order to "even things up" with Xbox Series X bad news.

The feud between some PlayStation and Xbox fans can sometimes get out of hand, and this would be one of those moments. Although, while this PS5 rumor was a bit hard to swallow from the start, it's not hard to see why it took off so easily. Everything fans know about the PlayStation 5 amounts to very little at this point. It's still a mystery just how much the console costs, and unlike the Xbox Series X, it doesn't even have a confirmed month of release.

Sony recently held a PlayStation State of Play event for August that showed off some of the new third-party games that would be coming to both the PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and the PlayStation 5, but it didn't mention anything more about the PlayStation 5 itself, to the displeasure of some fans that watched the showcase. The console is set to come out this holiday season, though, so it shouldn't be much longer before Sony releases more substantial information — hopefully.
