The launch of next generation consoles has been far from normal, as the global pandemic shook the foundation of the distribution process in many ways. Not only are supply shortages making it difficult for players to get their hands on a coveted PS5, but the necessity for online only sales has also made scalpers and bots more prevalent in the market. The lineup of PS5 launch games was certainly impressive, but many still feel that there's not much that a PS5 can do that a PS4 can't. Obviously there are some exclusives, but most next gen titles are still shackled by the need to also perform well on last generation consoles.

That sentiment is likely going to change soon, as Sony recently revealed that it is hard at work creating a whole host of PS5 exclusive titles. The news comes from Herman Hullst, the head of PlayStation Studios. According to this industry giant, there are currently 25 different PS5 exclusives in the works under the PlayStation Studios umbrella alone.

Elaborating on this, Hullst goes on to say that these new games will offer a ton of variety. Some of them will be major, triple A games while others take a smaller approach. There will also be diversity in terms of the genres of these games, but that isn't even the most exciting part. While players love seeing sequels to their most beloved games, the last few years have shown what good new IPs can do. Hullst claims that almost half of the 25 titles being developed for PS5 are all brand new IPs.

There's also something to be said for independent studios that are making PS5 exclusive games. A recent example of this is Housemarque's Returnal, a PS5 exclusive from a studio that isn't a first party developer. Regarding what all of these games could be, there are many possibilities. The new IPs will have to be revealed before fans can start speculating about them, but there are other games that fans would love to see a sequel to. Fans already know that sequels to Ratchet and Clank and the Horizon franchise are in the works, but there are obviously many more yet to be announced.

This all seems to indicate a bright future for PS5 owners, and it also comes alongside a reaffirmation that Sony is working hard to overcome supply shortages and scalping issues. With any luck, these problems will soon be a thing of the past and more players will get to experience the glory of next generation gaming.

The PS5 is available now.
