Video game development is fickle, and because of that, it isn't uncommon for games to be canceled unceremoniously. WiLD, a PS4 exclusive game first announced at Gamescom back in 2014, has been radio silent for some time, leading many to believe it was never coming out. However, new concept art has breathed some fresh life into the project.

WiLD appeared to be well into development as late as 2015, with a gameplay demo showing off some of the features players could expect from the survival game. Players are seen riding bears, controlling a rabbit, and even riding on the back of a large hawk. The concept itself is interesting, though it hasn't been seen or heard from quite some time, though WiLD trademarks did pop up last year.

The new concept art was quietly added to Wild Sheep Studio's website, the developer behind the game. The artwork is impressive, capturing the breadth of nature that the game is apparently trying to convey. It features massive landmarks and creatures, showing an immense sense of scale between the player and the world they inhabit. And while concepts frequently go unused, the art is a wonderful look at what WiLD may become.

Now, it's unclear whether or not the game will remain a PS4 exclusive, move to the PS5, or change direction entirely, assuming WiLD is still alive. A game remaining in development for over 6 years isn't unheard of, in fact, it happens frequently with JRPGs, but it is usually a bad sign, especially for a concept that seeks to push games in a new direction, like WiLD.

With E3 canceled and companies scrambling to find digital alternatives, there's no telling when fans can expect a solid update on WiLD. It's been a very interesting time to watch a game disappear suddenly, and even stranger that it's beginning to pop back up now. It's possible, and even probable, that WiLD has simply undergone a large number of changes since it was first announced, though how it has shaped up remains to be seen.

For now, fans will just have to wait and see when or if something new will be announced in regards to WiLD. Sony has an impressive roster of exclusive games, and WiLD will certainly be a fine addition to that list, assuming it does come out.

WiLD is currently in development.
