Earlier today, Sony announced PS4 Tournaments: Challenger Series, seasonal tournaments that will give PlayStation 4 owners the chance to win prizes from the comfort of their own homes. These tournaments will be open to all PS Plus members, and the prizes awarded will escalate as players advance through the competition.

The first game on the docket for PS4 Tournaments is sure to get things started with a bang, as players will be going head to head in Mortal Kombat 11. After this Mortal Kombat 11 tournament has been completed, fans will have a chance to test their skills in FIFA 20Battlefield 5Warface, and more. Sony's announcement further emphasizes that these tournaments are for players of all skill levels, and there will be multiple chances to win prizes.

Registration for the Mortal Kombat 11 PS4 tournament is now open, and Stage 1 is set to begin on Tuesday, August 6. To advance past Stage 1, competitors must defeat three out of four opponents or place within the top 40% of players. This this will earn them a Mortal Kombat 11 PS4 Dynamic Theme and the chance to participate in Stage 2.

Notably, those that do not meet the aforementioned criteria for advancement will have chances to try again, as there will be six additional weeks of Stage 1 tournaments to participate in. This means that players will have many opportunities to advance to Stage 2 of this Mortal Kombat 11 competition. The Stage 2 tournaments will be double elimination, and those that place within the top 32 will receive varying amounts of Time Krystals.

The top 16 players in the Stage 2 tournaments will advance to Stage 3, a single elimination tournament that will crown the winner of this first PS4 Tournaments: Challenger Series. While Stage 3 will pay out to 16th place, the player that finds themselves on top will pocket $1,000 and earn a spot in the Northeast Championship in Philadelphia, PA. Additionally, this NEC qualification comes with flights, accommodations, a ticket to the event, and $2,500, but only North American winners will be eligible for this prize.

With Evo 2019 taking place this weekend, many fans will have their eyes on competitive Mortal Kombat 11. For those that would like to compete but may not be in a position to travel to such a tournament, this first iteration of the PS4 Tournaments: Challenger Series could be a perfect opportunity.
