Back in February, Sony began testing PS4 system update 7.5. And now PS4 system update 7.5 is being rolled out to the masses, with PlayStation 4 users able to download the update starting today. However, those expecting any big new features or dashboard changes will be disappointed, as the update doesn't really make any significant changes to the PS4 system that would really be noticed by users.

In the very brief PS4 system update 7.5 patch notes released by Sony, the company explains the "main feature" in the new software update is improvement for the system's performance. Nothing else is mentioned in the patch notes, though the use of the word "main" certainly suggests that the update has some other changes as well, though they must not be very significant.

All things considered, it's not terribly surprising that PS4 system update 7.5 doesn't include any major changes to the console in terms of new features. After all, the PS4 is nearing the end of its life in terms of being Sony's primary gaming console on the market, and so fans can expect the company to start focusing on its next-generation console instead.

The Sony PS5 is set to launch this coming holiday season, and once it does, the PS4 is unlikely to keep receiving major system updates as regularly or see new first-party exclusive games. The last couple major first-party exclusives announced for the PS4 are The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, both of which are expected to launch at some point later this year, even though the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has pushed back The Last of Us 2 release date indefinitely.

So far, Sony has been slow with its PS5 reveals. It only just recently pulled the curtain back on the PS5 DualSense controller, and it still has yet to unveil the design of the PS5 console itself. No first-party PS5 exclusives have been announced either, but if the console is still aiming for a holiday 2020 release, then fans can expect this information to be revealed over the course of the next few months or so.

But while the PS4 may soon no longer be Sony's main focus, fans can expect the console to still receive support for years to come. Sony still supports the PS3 after all in terms of keeping its online services up and running, and so fans should be able to count on similar dedication to the PS4 and its online services.
