Earlier this week, a screenshot that suggested that EA Access might soon be available to PlayStation 4 owners started circulating. Now, this screenshot, which depicts the EA Access icon within the Brazilian PlayStation Store, is not the only indication that the service is PS4 bound, as references to Sony have recently been found in EA Access' web code.

Specifically, through scouring the subscription service's code, two relevant mentions can be seen. The first asks players to "sign in from your PlayStation 4 and link your EA account" while the other states that "you will need to sign in with your PSN account in order to buy an EA Access subscription."

While, of course, finding these references should not be taken as official confirmation that EA Access will soon be available on PlayStation 4, the evidence is certainly mounting. This is especially true when this new discovery is considered alongside the aforementioned screenshot and the publisher's recent indication that the service would be coming to "another major platform" this year.

When EA Access was launched nearly five years ago, it was done so as an Xbox One exclusive service, with Origin Access acting as its PC counterpart. However, this exclusivity was not something driven by EA, but rather Sony opted not to bring the service to its console, suggesting that it was not a "good value."

This led some to speculate that Sony was simply attempting to protect the value of its own subscription service, PlayStation Now. Indeed, EA Access has quite a lot to offer to players that are interested in the publisher's titles, including early access to new EA games as well as an extensive library of current-gen releases. At $30 for a year of EA Access, some players may have found it hard to accept Sony's official justification for eschewing the service.

Regardless of what Sony's position on EA Access may have been previously, the references in the service's code certainly suggest that the company may have had a change of heart. That said, PlayStation 4 players should temper their excitement, as without official word from Sony or EA, this should still be considered speculative.
