Mass Effect 2 has been released for PS3 and has been received with welcome arms of the Sony gaming community.

The problem, though, lies in a few issues the title has been having with the hardware, specifically save game corruption and freezing. BioWare has released some information pertaining to a patch that is in the works and should be releasing soon (no date has been given yet).

Details of the fixes were published on the BioWare forums:

-Fixed a crash related to memory fragmentation. This fix will also resolve the crashing that corrupted Save Games.

-Slightly improved load times and level streaming.

-Added some telemetry to better improve future titles.

-Updated some strings to fix spelling mistakes (Sorry Kaidan!)

-Fixed the picture frame in Shepard’s Cabin to accurately reflect your love interest choices in Mass Effect: Genesis.

-Fixed a rare crash in the PSN version in Shepard’s Cabin.

While the fix has yet to be released, and must pass Sony's verification process, BioWare has given some advice for those who are experiencing the issue: Restart your game every few hours of play to avoid save corruption. Of course, it's not a perfect fix but, according to the developer, it should help alleviate some of the problems.

The PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 boasts the Mass Effect 3 graphic engine as well as all the DLC that was made available after launch for the Xbox 360 version. Just in case you had any reservations about buying the game (you shouldn't), you can check out our review for our 2010 Game of the Year. It's one of the best console offerings, not only by BioWare, but across the industry in general. Do yourself a favor and envelop yourself in a space opera story that is hard to rival - even if you loved Firefly.

Mass Effect 2 is available now for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
