It goes without saying that Sony has been dominating the console market ever since the release of the original PlayStation. Even the poor launch event of the PlayStation 3 didn't stop the console from slowly picking up steam to become another bestseller, cementing Sony's reputation as one of the greatest console manufacturers of all time.

A big part of what helped the PS3 get over an initially slow launch was a string of amazing titles that released over the console's lifespan, exclusives or otherwise. The library of the PlayStation 3 was positively brimming with quality, to the point where genuinely excellent titles ended up being left in the dust simply due to poor commercial performances, developer issues, or anything else along the same lines.

Keeping this in mind, here are ten games on the PS3 that definitely deserved a sequel but remained stagnant instead.

10 Journey

Bridges of cloth connecting structures in Journey

One of the greatest and most peaceful games on this list, playing through Journey is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that no fan of beautiful and artistic video games should miss out on in the slightest.

While one might argue that the brilliance of this title may be somewhat diluted with the announcement and release of a sequel, the mere fact that a player can experience the magic of this experience in an upgraded form is something that would definitely intrigue fans of this game.

9 Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain

While David Cage might not be the greatest video game director around, there's no denying the fact that Heavy Rain is easily his — and, by extension, Quantic Dream's — magnum opus.

The brilliant narrative of this game is something that most people are aware of, serving as the biggest draw of this title. While the story might be neatly wrapped up by the end — in the event of the good ending, at least — a sequel would definitely be alluring regardless, allowing players to get into the shoes of Ethan, Madison, and Norman once again.

8 Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3 was a failure from a design point of view, with the interference of EA being quite palpable throughout a game that used to prioritize horror over everything else. The idea of paying real money to get game-breaking weapons and playing with a companion all the time — something that significantly reduces the feeling of dread people have while playing the game — are things that irked fans to no end.

However, that's not to say that the franchise should be forgotten after this — if anything, Dead Space 4 could be the perfect way for the franchise to make amends... but the fact that Visceral Studios shut down doesn't bode well for the franchise in the slightest.

7 Resistance 3

Resistance 3

The Resistance series is one of the best and most underappreciated FPS franchises of all time, and it's a shame that no game has been released in the series following the third title.

While one might implore Insomniac Games to continue their work on this series, the fact that Marvel's Spider-Man ended up being such a massive success means that Resistance 4 may never see the light of day.

6 L.A. Noire

L.A. Noire

A revolutionary title for its time, L.A. Noire is easily one of the greatest detective games of all time. While one can definitely point out the flaws in this title, there's no denying the fact that stepping into the shoes of Cole Phelps ends up being a riveting experience from start to end.

While the tumultuous development of this title might point towards the fact that L.A. Noire 2 might never become a reality, one can still hope for Rockstar to pull through regardless.

5 Enslaved: Odyssey To The West

Back view of protagonists

Perhaps the most underrated game on this list, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a narrative masterpiece that was criminally unsuccessful from a commercial standpoint upon release.

The fact that talented actors like Andy Serkis and Lindsey Shaw were a part of this project should be enough to prove just how much quality is present in this title, and it's a shame that the sequel to this game was canceled because of poor commercial performance.

4 Braid

Braid

One of the most important indie games of all time, Braid is a short yet brilliant platformer where players need to manipulate time in order to solve puzzles and cross certain platforming sections.

While it's a shame that Braid never received a sequel, there's a silver lining here — Braid used the funds from this title to create another amazing title called The Witness.

3 Portal 2

Chell from Portal 2

It goes without saying that any article talking about well-deserved sequels is bound to have a Valve title at some point or the other. The company is notorious for always skimping out on the third title of any video game series, and one need only look at Portal 2 to understand why this is the case.

Portal 2 expands on pretty much everything from the first game, making for a brilliant experience that is a blast in every sense of the word. So, it's no wonder why fans have been clamoring for a Portal 3 ever since.

2 Bulletstorm

Bulletstorm

One of the most entertaining first-person shooters of all time, it's a shame that Bulletstorm didn't manage to sell as many titles as it deserved since this game is exactly what most people who want a fun and high-octane FPS would be seeking out.

Trying to get the most imaginative and brutal kills possible and racking up the points is quite satisfying, and it's a shame that the only love Bulletstorm has received since its release is an enhanced Full Clip Edition that features Duke Nukem.

1 BioShock Infinite

BioShock Infinite

The BioShock series is easily one of the greatest video game trilogies of all time, with the third game in the series capping off everything in a fashion that will have players reeling by the time the end credits roll.

With an ending as mind-boggling as the one featured in BioShock Infinite, it would definitely be very hard to justify a sequel to this amazing video game. This, coupled with the fact that Ken Levine has outright stated that working on Infinite ended up affecting his health quite a bit, means that the dream of a sequel won't become a reality anytime soon... if at all.

BioShock 4 is reportedly in the works, although very little information is out on the game. Current rumors also suggest that calling it BioShock 4 might also not be accurate. Whatever that game proves to be, a direct sequel to Infinite would be appreciated.
