Ah, the PlayStation 3. Sony's last-generation console that provided thousands of hours worth of entertainment for the gaming masses. While the console launched at a steep price point it still was one of the best-selling consoles of all time, and there were plenty of great games on the system. Games that players will always remember fondly, unless, of course, they're using their discarded PlayStation console as a doorstop.

A new image circulating online shows a PlayStation 3 being used to hold open a door to what appears to be an electronics store. The console has accumulated a fair amount of water on the top, raising questions as to what monster would leave the poor console out in the cold to die. It's a sad fate for the system, especially considering that even Microsoft's failed Kinect is being used as a security camera in some airports.

So far, the image has raised quite a bit of Internet commentary from members of the online community upset at how the poor device is being treated. It's a rare moment of unity for a community usually divided by more used to fighting over consoles than for them. While the console likely broke some time ago, hopefully before it was used as a doorstop, it's still sad to see one of the best consoles of all time used for such a low purpose.

Considering that the United States Air Force once used a cluster of PlayStation 3's to create a supercomputer, it's fair to say that this is quite the fall from grace for the console. It's probably only a matter of time before the internet discovers who was responsible for using the console as a doorstop, unleashing a tide of angry PlayStation fans.

The PlayStation 5 is coming next holiday season, and it's fair to say it wouldn't like seeing how its grandfather is being treated. Of course, this likely means that there are only a few more years before pictures of the PlayStation 4 being used as a doorstop begin to pop up, a reminder of the sad fate all technology will inevitably face. That is, of course, until the robots rise up to destroy us all.
