For the longest time, the most exciting day for PlayStation Plus subscribers every month was the first Tuesday. The new free PlayStation Plus games for every month are always added on the first Tuesday, and that holds true. In fact, this coming Tuesday, September 6 will see three games made available for PlayStation Plus subscribers to claim for free in the form of Need for Speed Heat, GranBlue Fantasy Versus, and Toem. But September 20 is going to be a much bigger day for PS Plus than September 6.

On September 20, Sony will be adding a whopping 17 more games to PlayStation Plus, available through the PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium tiers. In total, PS Plus Extra subscribers can claim 11 games for their collection, while PS Plus Premium is getting six retro games added to its library of titles.

The new games coming to PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium are what make September 20 such an exciting day for subscribers, but it's going to be a big day for another reason as well. September 20 also marks the day that PS Plus Premium is losing one of its best titles, as that's the day Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting the boot.

11 games are coming to PS Plus Extra on September 20, including some rather heavy hitters. The headlining new game is Arkane's Deathloop, which remains one of the highest-rated PlayStation 5 console exclusive games. Deathloop first launched last year and earned strong reviews for its art style, humor, and clever time loop gameplay. Deathloop's debut on PS Plus Extra should give the game's multiplayer component a nice boost, as it will give many more fans instant access to the title.

Another big game joining the PS Plus Extra lineup on September 20 is Assassin's Creed Origins. Originally released in 2017, Assassin's Creed Origins is the game that started the AC franchise on the action-RPG path it continues to march to this day. Ubisoft has been making its blockbuster releases readily available across many subscription services, so it's no surprise that Assassin's Creed Origins is coming to PS Plus Extra.

Assassin's Creed Origins isn't the only notable Ubisoft game coming to PS Plus Extra on September 20. Other Ubisoft games coming that day include Rabbids Invasion: Interactive TV Show, Rayman Legends, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, and Watch Dogs 2. Needless to say, Ubisoft fans have a ton to look forward to when the new PS Plus Extra games are added on September 20.

Most PS Plus Extra subscribers may be mainly interested in the bigger releases that are coming on September 20, but there are some notable indies joining the lineup that day as well. One of the most notable is Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition, which was just removed from Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

New games are the main September 20 is going to be a huge day for PlayStation Plus. However, the removal of Red Dead Redemption 2 will also make it a significant day. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most critically-acclaimed games of the last decade, and so its inclusion on PS Plus Premium has been a big selling point for the service. Come September 20, however, PS Plus Premium subscribers will no longer be able to access Rockstar's open world epic through their subscription.

The bad news is that more Red Dead Redemption games will soon be on the chopping block when it comes to PlayStation Plus. Unless plans change, October is going to see the original Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare expansion removed from PS Plus, so subscribers should keep that in mind. The good news is that Sony will keep adding new games to all three PlayStation Plus tiers on a monthly basis, so there's plenty for fans to look forward to.
