PlayStation Plus has been off to a great start with the PS5, as a few exciting games have launched directly through Plus. It seems like this tradition is set to continue, as PlayStation president Jim Ryan has promised more PS5 games will be free for PS Plus subscribers the day that they launch.

With several PS4 games finding success with this method, such as the indie darlings Rocket League and Fall Guys, it makes sense that developers would share interest in launching through the PlayStation Plus programs. Thus far, Bugsnax has found success doing this, as the game was free for PS Plus subscribers during the month of November — launching alongside the PS5 and giving new console adopters a delightful game to play through. Destruction AllStars recently continued this tradition, and according to Ryan, it will not be the last game to do so.

It seems that players can expect more release situations like with Control: Ultimate Edition, with Ryan outright confirming as such in an interview with GQ. When asked if PS Plus releases like Destruction AllStars and Bugsnax will continue, Ryan responded directly with a “yes.” He adds that PlayStation sees this as “a very interesting and innovative way to publish games,” and that releases like this have worked well for the company in the past. With subscribers obviously enjoying such a system, Ryan seems determined to keep it going.

As for when the next launch-day PS5 game will come, Ryan provided no specific information. He also gave no hints as to what this game could be, though given the fact that past launch-day releases have almost always been digital only games, fans can expect something along the lines of a Kena: Bridge of Spirits to make its way to PS Plus. While this is only being used as an example and is by no means confirmed to release with the platform, Kena: Bridge of Spirits and other games like it fit the bill of what a potential day one release looks like.

While players are still waiting to find out what March’s PS Plus game, Sony has confirmed that the Play at Home campaign will soon be returning. Alongside a special promotion with Sony’s streaming service Funimation, the Play at Home program will be giving players access to a free copy of the 2016 Ratchet and Clank remake. A great way to kick off the program and get players excited for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, it will be interesting to see what April, May, and June have in store for PlayStation fans.

With PlayStation Plus proving heavily beneficial for Destruction AllStars and Bugsnax, while also making for exciting launch-day releases that please subscribers, the system seems like one where everyone wins. As such, it is great to know that it will be continuing going forward.
