Members in the Premium tier of PlayStation Plus can now download a time-limited trial for 2022’s Sonic Frontiers. PS Plus Premium offers some noteworthy bonuses over the Extra tier, such as the ability to play PS1, PS2, and PSP games, in addition to streaming PS3 titles.Premium users can also download trials for some games, allowing them to play that particular title for a few hours. This time limit varies depending upon the game, as God of War Ragnarok offers a trial for three hours, but fans can only play Gotham Knights for up to an hour. By comparison, massive RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 allow PS Plus Premium members to play for up to five hours at no extra cost. Now, Sony has added another game from 2022 to this lineup, with an extremely short time limit.PlayStation Plus Premium members can play the full version of Sonic Frontiers for up to an hour, allowing them to get a basic idea of its gameplay mechanics. Fans should note that this timer is based on the running time of the application, so users need to close the game from the PlayStation menu for the countdown to stop. According to Sega, one playthrough of Sonic Frontiers takes around 20-30 hours to finish, so an hour does appear too short, especially when compared to other trials offered on PS Plus Premium.
Sonic Frontiers came out in November 2022 with a mixed to positive critical reception, and it currently has a Metacritic score of 71 for the PS5 version of the game. The user score on the other hand is much higher, as it currently sits at 8.2.
In addition to Sonic Frontiers, PS Plus Premium members can download time-limited trials for many high-rated games including Persona 5 Royal, The Last of Us Part 1, Tactics Ogre: Reborn, Marvel's Midnight Suns, and more. Overall, trials offer a great way for users to try out games before making a purchase-related decision, as they allow players to get a hands-on experience with that title.
Sony updates the PS Plus catalog of games every month, adding new games to the collection for subscribers to try out. PS Plus Extra members can play games like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Rainbow Six Extraction, Tchia, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Life is Strange 2, and more in March 2023, with Premium users getting access to Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror on top of these titles.
