Every month, PlayStation Plus subscribers get one PlayStation 5 and two PlayStation 4 games for free. The PlayStation Plus program has had a very strong 2021 by giving subscribers some great titles like Control, Hitman 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The program has generally been very well regarded by PlayStation players, as even many subscribers to Xbox Live Gold have hoped that their program will start to offer similar titles to PlayStation Plus.

Recently, the PlayStation Plus titles for October 2021 were announced to include Hell Let Loose for the PlayStation 5 and Mortal Kombat X and PGA Tour 2K21 for the PlayStation 4. While some PlayStation Plus subscribers aren't happy with the titles, they are still some solid additions to the program that players can pick up for free. However, those who want to check out all three of the free games this month aren't going to have to reserve much space to make room for them, even if they are more than worth it.

Hell Let Loose - PS5 (30 GB)

US Soldiers on street

Hell Let Loose is an online-only multiplayer shooter set in World War 2 and is a fairly recent release on the PlayStation 5. The game lets players step into a 50v50 match online fought between German, Soviet, and American armies on a variety of massive maps. Hell Let Loose is developed by Australian studio Black Matter and has been very well received since its launch earlier this year. The game features two game modes that see players fighting to control sectors of the larger maps in squads made of two to four players. This makes Hell Let Loose a fantastic game to pick up with one's friends, especially for any players who are waiting to jump into the massive scale action of Battlefield 2042.

The developers at Black Matter also designed Hell Let Loose to require communication between players in order for teams to be successful. This takes form through Hell Let Loose's incorporation of leadership roles in its multiplayer lobbies. The first leadership role is officers, who are each in charge of a single unit and can communicate with other leaders through a command-only voice channel to coordinate their forces. The second leadership role is the commander, who takes part in an RTS-inspired metagame that sees them trying to control resource nodes to call in support equipment, airstrikes, and various different orders. This helps add some more order and direction to the massive matches, while also bringing some unique gameplay experiences to Hell Let Loose.

Mortal Kombat X - PS4 (34 GB)

Mortal Kombat X was NetherRealm Studios' 2015 entry in the iconic fighting game franchise. While Mortal Kombat 11 has been released since, making the addition of Mortal Kombat X a bit outdated, it is still more than worth checking out thanks to how different the game plays from its successor. It also featuring many fighters that aren't featured in Mortal Kombat 11, adding to the list of reasons to give it a look. The game's combat is much more focused on players executing combos quickly and accurately. It also features a sizable roster that is very diverse, offering gamers a number of different playstyles and approaches. The roster includes 24 different characters, with eight of them having been entirely new additions at the time of release.

Mortal Kombat X also features a full story mode that leads right into Mortal Kombat 11's for any fans who want to get a look at what happened before the newest title began. However, the version of Mortal Kombat X being given to PlayStation Plus members is just the standard edition, meaning that players who want to get their hands on the game's nine DLC fighters will have to purchase them separately. Regardless, Mortal Kombat X is more than worth a look for any fighting game fans or players who think they would enjoy running through its well-produced story mode. For fans of the series, the influx of new players may make now a great time to jump back into Mortal Kombat X for some online matches, especially since NetherRealm announced a few months ago that it was done supporting Mortal Kombat 11.

PGA Tour 2K21 - PS4 (11 GB)

PGA Tour 2K21 was developed by HB Studios and is the newest realistic golfing simulator for players to try and tackle. At release, it was widely praised for its new quality of life features, player assists, and general improvements that made the game more accessible. However, for more hardcore golf fans, many of the new features can be turned off. PGA Tour 2K21 also offers plenty of hard courses to test one's skill on. Further, PGA Tour 2K21 includes a ton of different courses for players to master, with17 real-life courses and 24 fictional courses, available. This is rather impressive for how little space the game requires on a PlayStation console.

The game also features an in-depth career mode that allows players to make their own custom golfer and compete against real-life pros. It has full multiplayer support including local and online play, and new multiplayer modes like Divot Derby, which sees 6 to 20 players shooting at the same time to avoid getting eliminated when moving on to the next hole. For the more creative golf enthusiast, PGA Tour 2K21 also features a full course creator that gives players tools to design, build, and play on their own custom holes using 1000s of options. Players can then download courses from the community, allowing them to play as much golf as their hearts can handle.

Even if some subscribers are not happy with the newest batch of PlayStation Plus titles, there is undoubtedly a lot there for players to check out and try, with the upside of 75 total GB being taken up. PlayStation Plus had quite the hot streak in 2021 overall, so hopefully the service can keep it going for the rest of the year and into 2022.
