PlayStation Plus subscribers have gotten used to a routine when it comes to the free games. While there have been some exceptions where bonus games have been added, PlayStation Plus subscribers are typically treated to three free games every month, usually consisting of one PlayStation 5 game and two PlayStation 4 titles. Some months have a better selection than others, but regardless, June 2022 is going to be huge for the service.

Sony has yet to announce the free PS Plus games for June 2022. While some fans expected the free PS Plus games for June 2022 announcement to happen earlier this week, the most likely scenario is that the games won't be revealed until Wednesday, June 1 and then added on Tuesday, June 7, barring any surprises from Sony. But even if the free PS Plus games for June 2022 aren't as exciting as some may hope, next month is going to be big no matter what.

June 2022 is when Sony is making drastic changes to its PlayStation Plus subscription service to not only convince longtime subscribers to stay on the hook, but also draw in new customers. Sony is combining its PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus services into a single package, while also adding some higher-profile games and a slew of retro titles to the mix. The end result will be three new PlayStation Plus subscription tiers: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium.

The new PS Plus subscription tiers will launch on June 13 in North America. The service has already launched in some Asian markets, and it will be releasing in Japan on June 1. Previously, it was claimed the new PS Plus subscription service would include over 700 games for those subscribed to the PS Plus Premium tier, though that remains to be seen. As it stands, Sony has not revealed the full slate of games that will be included in PS Plus Premium when the service rolls out to the rest of the world.

What's been announced for PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium so far is impressive, however. At launch, those subscribed to PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium can look forward to Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. PS Plus Extra subscribers will also have access to hundreds of games that are currently available to play through PlayStation Now, while PS Plus Premium subscribers will get all that in addition to classics pulled from the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 libraries.

The downside to this is that Sony will be dialing back the number of free games that it gives away every month through the base tier, soon to be known as PS Plus Essential. It's been said that subscribers will get only two free games every month instead of the usual three, though it's unclear if that will go into effect with the June 2022 free games or if it won't happen until July, which will be the first full month that the new PS Plus tiers are available. Regardless, it's clear that June 2022 is going to be huge for PS Plus no matter what, and it will be exciting to see how it all goes down.
