Sony has completely changed its PlayStation Plus service, introducing three tiers for subscribers to choose from. The PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers are a bit more expensive, but they give PS4 and PS5 gamers access to many more games than the standard PS Plus Essential subscription. As a matter of fact, the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers will soon be getting an influx of new games, with 15 titles coming to PS Plus Extra subscribers and 17 set to be available for those signed up for the PS Plus Premium tier.

All of these games will be joining the PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium tiers come Tuesday, July 19, making it a huge day for PlayStation Plus subscribers, to say the least. Those signed up for the PS Plus Extra tier will be able to get their hands on five Assassin's Creed games (technically seven since Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection includes three games), Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, Marvel's Avengers, Saints Row 4: Re-Elected, Stray, and a variety of other titles.

Out of these, perhaps the most notable addition is Stray. While most of the PS Plus Extra and Premium games coming on July 19 are older titles, Stray is a brand-new, day one release. Stray is the first PS Plus Extra day one release since the introduction of the new PlayStation Plus tiers, and so it will be interesting to see how fans react to it. For those who may be unfamiliar with the game, Stray is a game where players play as a cat in a futuristic, cyberpunk-style city. Stray was one of the very first games ever revealed for Sony's PlayStation 5 console, though it should be noted that a PS4 version will also be available for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers to check out come launch day on July 19.

PS Plus Premium subscribers will have access to all the games coming to PS Plus Extra on July 19, but they will also be able to play two additional games as well. Starting July 19, PS Plus Premium's library of PSP games will be growing with the additions of LocoRoco: Midnight Carnival and No Heroes Allowed. There are still many classic PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 games missing from the PS Plus Premium library, so hopefully there will be many more updates to come.

Of course, those signed up for the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers also have access to the monthly free PS Plus games. And unlike the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers, the monthly free games can be kept forever, assuming one stays signed up for the PS Plus service. The free PS Plus games for July 2022 are Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan, and day one game Arcadegeddon, all available to claim right now.

While the games added to the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers aren't up for keeps, they should still be available for quite some time. Like Xbox Game Pass, it seems as though games being removed from PS Plus Extra will be a fairly rare occasion. Looking ahead, there are only a handful of games that are confirmed to be getting removed from the PS Plus Extra tier in the near future. Syberia is being removed on July 19, while NBA 2K22 and WRC 10 are both getting the boot on August 31.

Come September 20, PS Plus Extra will be losing one of its best games as that's the day when Red Dead Redemption 2 is being removed from the service. About a month later, the original Red Dead Redemption and its standalone expansion Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare are also being removed. These games being removed from PS Plus resulted in some speculation that Rockstar Games may be preparing remasters of the titles, but that has turned out to be inaccurate, if the latest leaks and rumors are anything to go by.

Regardless, fans can count on Sony adding a lot more games to the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers than it removes, and there should be plenty of big additions in the months ahead.
