When it comes to PlayStation Plus, Sony has trained its fans to expect a fairly regular routine. Typically, the new PlayStation Plus games are announced on the last Wednesday of the month, and are then added to the service on the first Tuesday of the following month. However, there are times when the free PS Plus games announcement doesn't come on the last Wednesday of the month, and that appears to be the case for the free PS Plus games for June 2022.

Some PlayStation Plus subscribers have been expecting the free PS Plus games for June 2022 announcement to happen today, May 25, but they will likely be disappointed. As it so happens, the first Tuesday of June isn't until June 7. Next Tuesday is May 31, meaning PS Plus subscribers will be waiting a bit longer than they may have anticipated to get their hands on the free games for June 2022.

The reason this happens is that the free PS Plus game announcements are based around when the first Tuesday of the next month is, as opposed to the last Wednesday of the month like it may seem on the surface. So in situations like this, the free PS Plus games announcement will likely come on the first Wednesday of the following month. This means that it's a safe bet that the free PS Plus games for June 2022 announcement will happen on Wednesday, June 1, with the games then being added six days later on June 7.

ps plus new tiers

Of course, it's possible that Sony will shake up how it does its free PS Plus games announcements, as the company is prepped to make sweeping changes to the service in the near future. The new PS Plus subscription tiers will be introduced in North America on June 13, at which point subscribers will have three options to choose from: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium.

PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium will include extra games that won't be for subscribers to keep, but will rather be cycled in and out like the PlayStation Now games. There will still be the monthly free games for PS Plus subscribers to claim, but it's been suggested that the lineup will include one less game than fans are used to when the changes take place.

Since the launch of the PlayStation 5, PS Plus subscribers have been treated to two PS4 games and one PS5 game every month. However, it's been said there will only be two free PS Plus games given away every month to PS Plus Essential subscribers when the changes are made. It's possible this change will go into effect with the free PS Plus games for June 2022, but it's also possible it will wait until July. Subscribers will just have to hang tight for more information.
