As January comes to a near, PS Plus has operated as it always does. Last Wednesday, Sony revealed the PS Plus free games for February 2022, which will release this coming Tuesday (February 1). However, while sometimes this is a period of excitement or a period of hype, that’s not really the case this time around.

The PS Plus free games for February 2022 have proven controversial, and many have deemed them to be a bad selection of games. Part of this is because not a single one really fits a genre that typically does well on PS Plus—as sports games, sim games, and “not full games” have never really done well. Still, there is some value here to PS Plus subscribers, but if curious, here’s what everyone should know about each game.

PS Plus Free Games for February 2022 - UFC 4

Chuck Liddell kicking Bruce Lee

UFC 4 (PS4 version on PS Plus) is a mixed martial arts fighting game that launched to generally positive reviews back in 2022. Obviously based on the real-world promotion Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the game features 229 unique fighters, a career more, an improved control scheme from predecessors, fights in Backyard and Kumite, and more. In career mode, players progress, accept or decline challenges, and aim to become the Greatest of All Time. Overall, for fans of the series who haven’t checked this one out, it’s a solid improvement over past UFC games—the one thing that doesn’t return, however, is Ultimate Team.

PS Plus Free Games for February 2022 - Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot

Borderlands 2 Tiny Tina Assault On Dragon Keep DLC

Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot (PS4 version on PS Plus) is a standalone re-release of the Borderlands 2 DLC, with this one, in particular, proving to be a fan-favorite over time. The DnD aspect and emotional nature of the story make it worth playing time and again—saving a queen from an evil sorcerer and coming to terms with Roland’s death—even if it’s not paired with everything else from Borderlands 2 this time around.

With this, notably, there are several changes to Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep:

  • Redesigned main menu
  • A brief recap of Borderlands 2
  • A new Easy Mode setting
  • Scaling has been revamped due to its standalone nature
  • All Six Borderlands 2 Vault Hunters are available.
  • Players gain 2 skill points per level.
  • Black Market, Bank, Rainbow Chest, Marcus Kincaid, and Secret Stash now all appear in Flamerock Refuge
  • New unique items added to the experience, while Kite Shields is a brand-new shield type.
  • Two Borderlands 2 quests, The Bane and Shoot This Guy in the Face, have been brought into this One-Shot and tweaked for the fantasy setting.

PS Plus Free Games for February 2022 – Planet Coaster: Console Edition

Planet Coaster: Console Edition (PS5 version on PS Plus) is a construction and management simulation game, and it received good reviews at launch too. However, fans should be mindful that they know the differences between the PC and console editions. For example, while PC players can make their own avatar, it is not used in the console edition. It’s pretty straightforward beyond these differences, as players build theme park rides and roller coasters across four primary game modes: sandbox, challenge, career, and scenario editor. In sandbox mode, players can build their theme park on an empty plot of land, with everything unlocked and unlimited fun.

In challenge mode, players must construct an amusement park with limited funds and research depending on difficulty, and players must complete challenges for rewards. Career mode sees Planet Coaster players constructing roller coasters, achieving park ratings, hiring janitors, and completing other scenarios with objectives and such. Overall, it’s what fans should expect from a solid simulation game, but with some other features that don’t appear on PC versions such as the tutorial, voice acting in career mode, and a counter for buildable objects in a theme park.

PS Plus subscribers get a handful of free games every month.
