Typically, Sony announces the new free games for PS Plus on the last Wednesday of the month, although the company has diverged from this pattern a time or two. The PS Plus free games for August 2020, for example, have been announced two days early, but it's easy to see why—there's a couple of added bonuses fans should keep an eye out for. This also means that those who haven't downloaded this month's offerings (NBA 2K20Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Erica) should go ahead and do so.

The games headlining the service this month are Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. While some months have been hit or miss, these two games are big for a couple of reasons. PS Plus subscribers are getting Fall Guys on its release date, August 4, meaning this is a brand new game coming to the service at launch. It is a "hilarious multiplayer party title" that should keep fans entertained tackling its competitive free-for-alls and co-op challenges.

Modern Warfare 2 Campaigned Remastered has upgraded visuals for the second game in Infinity Ward's blockbuster subfranchise, but it comes with the shocking bonus that it can be downloaded tomorrow, July 28, until August 31. Fall Guys will follow the typical pattern of August 4 until August 31, to be clear. Getting a game early is always nice for a subscription service, but the added bonuses don't stop there. For PS4 fans without a PS Plus subscription, there's a free multiplayer weekend coming to PS4 next month, starting on Saturday August 8 at 12:01 AM and ending on Sunday August 9 at 11:59 PM.

It'll be interesting to see the fan reaction to this month's games, as many may not have forgotten the petition to change May 2020's PS Plus games, but this may prove to be the start of a good line-up going into the PS5 release. Advertising PS Plus with free weekends is a good move for the PS5 front, and it's hard not to read into the Modern Warfare game on the doc.

After all, rumors are mounting that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is going to be revealed soon, with the title recently leaking via a Doritos promo. If so, it's a good time to focus on Infinity Ward's titles before fans turn to Treyarch's next venture, but regardless, fans will want to keep an eye out for the remaster dropping tomorrow.
