Gamers on various platforms have received an extensive amount of freebies over throughout 2021 from Xbox's Games With Gold to the Epic Games Store's weekly offerings. One PlayStation fan has noted that PlayStation Plus gave away nearly $1,500 worth of free games in 2021 alone.
Reddit user Turbostrider27 recently posted a photo compiling all of the freebies from PlayStation Plus in 2021. The list included popular offerings such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Days Gone, Mortal Shell, and Oddworld: Soulstorm alongside the smaller freebies like Concrete Genie, Hell Let Loose, Overcooked: All You Can Eat, and Stranded Deep. In total, all of the games offered through PS Plus During 2021 were worth $1,430.
Other titles offered through PS Plus during 2021 include A Plague Tale: Innocence, Battlefield 5, Control: Ultimate Edition, Farpoint, Greedfall, Godfall, Hitman 2, Maneater, Remnant: From the Ashes, and Wreckfest. The free PS Plus titles throughout 2021 covered several genres and the list includes single-player and multiplayer games. The vast array of free games offered each month through PlayStation Plus ensures that subscribers who play each game have countless hours of free content to explore.
Turbostrider27 sourced the full price of each title to reach the $1,430 title, but many of these games go on sale during annual events like Black Friday and Boxing Day. Another Reddit user noted that a more accurate cost of the games that factors in recent sales data brings the PS Plus offerings down to a value of $650. Although this is a significant change from Turbostrider27's, the value is still significant with each free game that PlayStation fans didn't already own.
Because some PlayStation fans noted that they already had many of these PlayStation Plus freebies, the value of the free games is still largely dependant on who's receiving them. PS Plus subscribers that haven't purchased a single game in 2021 received a significant chunk of games at a low cost, while players who owned every offering didn't see a benefit of the subscription service this year. Most PlayStation fans fall in the middle where they owned a few of the PS Plus freebies already but were able to check out some new games thanks to offerings each month.
Compared to previous years, PS Plus offered an improved value during 2021, with 2020's offerings sitting at around $488 at sale pricing. Although the value of the games offered during 2021 was increased, several PlayStation fans responding to Turbostrider27 were disappointed by PS Plus during the year. Although Xbox Games With Gold offers freebies similar to PlayStation Plus, Turbostrider27 has yet to compile the value of 2021's offerings.
