As September prepares to come to a close, many PS Plus subscribers are eager to find out what games will be offered on the service next month. Sony’s pattern doesn’t make the games easier to predict, but it does give reasonable expectations. For example, fans can reasonably believe there will be one PS5 game and two PS4 games. They can also expect Sony to announce the line-up on September 29 before they release on Tuesday, October 5 (due to the company’s last Wednesday-first Tuesday schedule).
However, by looking at other traditional patterns, many fans have deduced that the next game is Hell Let Loose. This is because, while it has featured several betas on PlayStation and not Xbox, it is not yet able to pre-order—something Sony typically does ahead of a game’s PS Plus release. PS Plus skews toward multiplayer games quite often, which Hell Let Loose is, and the game releases on PS5 on October 5—the date it would be available if it is indeed a PS Plus title.
As such, Hell Let Loose is a prime candidate for a PS Plus PS5 release, but this leads to an important question. What exactly is Hell Let Loose?
PS Plus: Hell Let Loose – A WWII Shooter
In short, it’s a WW2-based multiplayer tactical first-person shooter operating on a platoon level of combat. It features iconic 50v50 fights from the Western and Eastern fronts of WW2, including Germans, Americans, and Soviets. Each team features six-man rifle squads, three-man armored squads, and recon squads of two.
It currently features two game modes, Warfare and Offensive, but is currently working on Invasion and Campaign modes. Both current modes focus on capture and control, where Hell Let Loose's Warfare is won by controlling all sectors or controlling the most at the end of the game, and Offensive features a defensive team defending all sectors and an opposing team trying to capture them all before the time runs out.
There are real-time strategy elements as well, mostly belonging to each side’s appointed commander. The commander is in charge of teams and squads, but also tank deployments, airstrikes, and so on. The latter requires resources that are accumulated by engineers, etc.
Map design is incredibly thorough, featuring locations such as Omaha Beach, Hill 400, Stalingrad, Kursk, and more. They are designed based on their real-world counterparts, utilizing satellite imagery, historical aerial photography, and street-level recreation. While the extent obviously varies, the developer of Hell Let Loose once described Sainte-Marie-du-Mont as a 1:1 scale battlefield.
Hell Let Loose is already available via Steam, where it has a “Very Positive” standing among 32,000 reviews. The Metacritic reviews of it are mode mixed, putting the games into the 70s there. But, overall, while it remains to be seen, it seems like Hell Let Loose should serve as a good PS Plus PS5 game. Sony has yet to announce its inclusion yet, but it seems like a fun, safe bet.
