PS Plus Extra subscribers have suddenly lost access to a game without any kind of warning. The middle tier of Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription service is known as PS Plus Extra, and it gives subscribers access to a large library of PS4 and PS5 games on top of the free monthly games. PlayStation Plus games available on the PS Plus Extra tier can't be claimed to keep like other titles in the service, but rather function more like Xbox Game Pass or the defunct PlayStation Now, where their availability is subject to change.

Generally speaking, it's a rare thing for games to leave the PS Plus Extra lineup, at least so far. While there have been some games removed from PS Plus Extra since the service was introduced earlier this year, most of the time any changes to the lineup come in the form of new additions. And whenever a game is removed from PS Plus Extra, subscribers are usually given some advanced notice. However, one PS Plus Extra game has now been removed from the lineup without warning, though it may be coming back sooner rather than later.

Push Square noticed that JRPG Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana suddenly disappeared from the PS Plus Extra lineup, suspiciously close to the time that the PS5 version of the game launched. Publisher NIS America reached out to Push Square to confirm that Ys 8's removal from the PS Plus Extra lineup happened in error, and its sudden removal is being investigated. Since it seems that this was simply a mistake, anyone that was playing Ys 8 through PS Plus Extra will likely be able to do so again whenever the problem is sorted out.

Ys 8's disappearance from the PS Plus Extra catalog may be a frustrating development for some subscribers, but at least they know it wasn't done on purpose. In the meantime, some PS Plus Extra subscribers may be looking for something else to play while they wait for Ys 8 to make its return. Luckily, PS Plus Extra recently added 15 games to the lineup, including most of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Special Edition, Ubisoft games like Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Rainbow Six Siege, and The Division 2, and the critically-acclaimed inde What Remains of Edith Finch. Needless to say, there should be plenty of games for PS Plus Extra subscribers to check out, even when taking Ys 8's mysterious disappearance into account.

Those who pay a little more every month and are signed up for the PS Plus Premium tier of Sony's subscription service have even more games to check out this month. PS Plus Premium subscribers get access to all the titles added through PS Plus Extra, on top of classic games from the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 eras. Five more Ratchet & Clank games were added to PS Plus Premium in the latest update, and it will be exciting to see what else joins the lineup in the months ahead.
