As an asymmetrical, multiplayer horror game from developer FNTASTIC and publisher MYTONA, Propnight wears its unabashed inspirations on its sleeve. Indeed, Propnight as a title is an amalgam of the two games that has inspired it: Prop Hunt and Dead by Daylight.

Prop Hunt's cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek mechanics allow players to hide as imitable props while other players hunt them throughout the environment, with the props winning if they are able to last long enough for the time to run out. Dead by Daylight, on the other hand, is a 4v1 horror-themed game where survivor players repair generators and evade one of many killer characters in foot chases to escape. Today, Propnight has portrayed what this combination of gameplay will look like in an official reveal trailer.

Propnight's official reveal trailer marries Prop Hunt with Dead by Daylight to generate "physics-based mayhem" with familiar concepts from both games. Propnight's macrocosmic gameplay loop takes wholesale inspiration from Dead by Daylight, with the conceptual mechanic of Prop Hunt peppered throughout. Rather, Propnight seems far less stealth-oriented than its seminal predecessors and far more chaotic throughout moment-to-moment gameplay; for example, survivors turn into miscellaneous objects and animately flail and bound around.

But in order to escape, survivors must repair Propmachines by turning back into stylized teenager characters. Survivors seemingly transition in-and-out of prop form at will to do so, and Propnight's animations during repairs are unapologetic in their inspiration from Dead by Daylight, where the survivors crouch and demonstrate their capable handiwork on the machine before them.

Likewise, Propnight appears to have a deep roster of killer characters. Propnight's official trailer features an evil nun with bladed gloves, smeared black-and-grey makeup, and piercing yellow eyes. As the killer, players pursue these prop-survivors in a first-person-perspective not unlike Dead by Daylight.

However, it seems as though survivors also play in first-person when they are not in prop form, as seen with a player possessing a soda can and a player temporarily stunning the killer character with a camera flash. This stun also causes coins of some sort to drop from the killer, though the purpose of such a mechanic is undetermined in the trailer. Fortunately, more can be learned about Propnight with hands-on experiences starting today.
