Project Eve hasn't been seen in nearly a year, but its latest trailer at PlayStation Showcase 2021 certainly delivers, focusing on the game's Bayonetta-styled combat.

Korean studio Shift Up has been working on Project Eve since 2019. Last fall Shift Up released new Project Eve screenshots along with an extended look at one of the game's bosses. From the limited trailers and screenshots that have been released, the game is set in a science fiction, post apocalyptic world where the players control Eve, a young woman companied by a robot, in a fight against a grotesque alien threat.

In the new PlayStation Showcase 2021 trailer for Project Eve, players get a closer look at Eve, the world, and especially the combat. Right out the gate the trailer shows Eve fighting some sort of hulking alien creature before being thrashed around and ejected into outer space. Expectedly, when the trailer shows gameplay, Eve is flashy and acrobatic, pulling off crazy combos as particle effects flash around the screen. The combination of the wild enemy designs and deep combat bring the gameplay of the Bayonetta franchise to mind (minus the hair combos and Witch time, of course).

Beyond the combat, the new Project Eve trailer showcases many subtle changes to Eve and the game's presentation. It appears that Eve will have multiple outfits in the game, being shown in the trailer in both the blue outfit as seen last year, and a new green-themed outfit. Furthermore, the designs of Eve's robot companion, the desolated world, and disturbing, tentancle enemies is reminsicent of the often oppressive world design of the NieR games. At the end of the trailer, it looks like Eve fights an enemy very similar to herself, almost like they are androids of each other as found in NieR Automata.

While Project Eve was shown during the PlayStation Showcase, and the footage was captured on PS5, this does not mean the title is a PlayStation exclusive, as it was not explicitly said. If anything, this presentation is indicative that the game is progressing well, and for fans, is looking really promising. Sadly, the trailer does not offer insight as to when the game is coming out, so hopefully the next time it is shown it will not have been almost a year later. Considering the litany of other announcements during the PlayStation Showcase 2021, the game is going to have some stiff competition.

Project Eve is currently in development.
