Speculation on the return of classic Ubisoft franchises has been at an all-time high in recent years, with the studio frequently dipping into its back catalogue of franchises for cameos and references in newer titles. While fans of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell still have to wait their turn at a new instalment, fans of Prince of Persia learned this past September that Ubisoft is developing a remake of the PC, Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox classic. After an underwhelming showing in September, the studio has now revealed just over a month from its release that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will be delayed to March 2021.

Upon the reveal of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake during September's Ubisoft Forward event, fans immediately voiced their disappointment in the game's visual presentation. The game is in development from Ubisoft Pune, a studio mainly known for its work on mobile titles and the Just Dance series. With a team of over 750 developers, the game is the biggest title that Ubisoft Pune has developed yet, however the quality of the game's visuals were slammed for looking underdeveloped and outdated.

In a now deleted post on Facebook, Ubisoft Czechoslovakia announced that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will be pushed from its January 21st release date to March 18th. The delay is intended to polish the game further with the original statement (translated by ResetEra user NeoRaider) reading:

"Greetings, Prince of Persia fans! During our Ubisoft Forward digital conference, we proudly announced Prince's return from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. We are excited to be able to put this game in your hands again as we retell the story of Prince and Farah in the amazing 11th century Persia. However, 2020 was a year like no other. Today we would like to inform you that we need more time to complete the game. With that, the release date of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been moved to March 18, 2021. We believe this is the right decision to ensure we deliver a game you like. Thank you for your patience and continued support of the Prince of Persia, and we hope you remain safe and healthy during this holiday season."

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time originally released in 2003 for Nintendo GameCube, PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. The game was a reboot of the Prince of Persia series of cinematic platformers as a 3D action-adventure game. The game's traversal system later became the basis of the Assassin's Creed franchise, which later inspired the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man. The game was later remastered in Prince of Persia Trilogy, a HD collection for the PlayStation 3 which also included the game's sequels Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. The game received a critically-panned film adaptation from Walt Disney Pictures in 2010.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake releases for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 18th 2021.
