Rumors have been swirling for some time that Ubisoft has a Prince of Persia remake in the works. These rumors heated up significantly when retail listings for the Prince of Persia remake started appearing online, lending them significantly more credibility. And now a well-known industry insider has made the claim that the Prince of Persia remake will be announced at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event on September 10.
According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, speaking on the Triple Click podcast, Ubisoft plans to reveal the Prince of Persia remake at Ubisoft Forward on September 10. "They had been planning a new Ubisoft Forward, where they were going to announce a bunch of games like the Prince of Persia remake that was leaked a couple of weeks ago. That is planned, it was announced today as being for next week, September 10th."
If the Prince of Persia remake retail leaks are to be believed, the game is set to launch this coming November for PS4 and Switch. However, with Ubisoft's own Assassin's Creed Valhalla also releasing in November, that release date seems unlikely. But if Schreier is correct about the Prince of Persia remake being at Ubisoft Forward on September 10, then fans don't have to wait much longer to find out.
Now, it remains to be seen exactly which Prince of Persia game the remake will be based on. The Prince of Persia franchise started in the 1980s, so it could very well be a remake of the original 1989 release. However, a more likely scenario is that the game is a Sands of Time remake, as it's safe to say modern gamers are far more familiar with it than the 1989 original.
Previously, some rumors have gone as far as to claim that Ubisoft is going to release a Prince of Persia remake trilogy, which will include Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones. Other rumors still have pointed to a completely brand new Prince of Persia game instead of a remake, but until the announcement is made, all fans can do is speculate.
Assuming the rumors are true, then the Prince of Persia remake announcement will likely be the biggest reveal at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward. However, it's not the only game that the company plans to showcase. Ubisoft recently released a trailer teasing some of the other games that fans can expect from the Ubisoft Forward event, including titles like Immortals Fenyx Rising and Watch Dogs Legion. To see everything Ubisoft has on its slate, fans will just need to tune in to the Ubisoft Forward event on Thursday, September 10 at 12pm PT.
Prince of Persia is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
