Ubisoft has given fans the first glimpse into the newest entry in the Prince of Persia franchise, Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time. After a few months of silence Ubisoft Düsseldorf, a German developer within Ubisoft released screenshots of the upcoming entry on Twitter

While rumors of a new console entry are circling the internet, Ubisoft has begun releasing details regarding Prince of Persia: The Dagger Of Time. Announced as a VR experience, the game involves a minimum of two players (with a maximum of 4) teaming up to find a way out of the Fortress of Time. Players will need to work together and solve puzzles by interacting with objects in their vicinity, climbing locations, and using time control mechanics to reach an end goal.

Those looking to check out the VR experience will have to check the games official website to see the closest location to host the game so expect escape rooms, VR arcades, and theme parks to be the primary locations for its availability. As of now there is no announcement regarding support for any home PC or console VR support, though the series creator is hoping to revive the franchise on those platforms.

Fans of the game series have been put through their paces in recent years. At one time the Prince of Persia franchise was extremely popular with multiple games being released in the Sands of Time Trilogy, with the series' unique time bending game play being a major hook. The series was rebooted on the PS3 and Xbox 360 and even saw a new entry in the original trilogy later on last gen's life cycle but Prince of Persia never seemed to find its footing beyond the main trilogy of games and a poorly received movie released in 2010.

Recently footage of a cancelled Prince of Persia game was found on YouTube that dated back as far as 2012. Beyond that the series has seen minor involvement in other Ubisoft franchises such as For Honor and Assassin's Creed, with outfits, weapons and other Easter eggs referencing the dormant franchise. Ubisoft has announced that throughout the summer more Ubisoft Forwards would be showcased detailing the companies future and though the first Forward had no Prince of Persia content, there still may be hope for fans in the near future.
