Although Prince of Persia was an extremely favored and well-known franchise at one point in time, the series' popularity dwindled, particularly during the last generation of consoles. While a movie based on the series, The Sands of Time, came out in 2010, one can only surmise that the film's poor quality managed to sully the brand's name. However, there's still a chance for the property to return to its former glory, as the creator Jordan Mechner recently stated that he's working to resurrect the franchise.

As seen in the tweet below from Jordan Mechner's official Twitter account, the Prince of Persia creator responded to model and TV host Chrissy Teigen's post about how she had enjoyed the series' games and wondered if the franchise was still kicking. As it so happens, Mechner wound up seeing Teigen's tweet and explained to her that he and a handful of others are trying to garner interest in reviving the series.

For those unaware, it has been a long time since Prince of Persia graced the gaming world with its very first entry, as the original title launched way back in 1989 for Apple II home computers. Since then, Mechner has had his hands in several other Prince of Persia games, including the initial reboot that occurred in 2001 when the video game company Ubisoft took over the series' publishing rights.

As of now, even though Jordan Mechner and a coterie of supporters want to resuscitate the series, it's not totally clear as to whether or not Ubisoft would give the go-ahead for another Prince of Persia game. After all, many already consider Assassin's Creed and its myriad sequels to have filled the hole left when the Prince of Persia property languished during the PS3 and Xbox 360 era. That said, though, Ubisoft could very well surprise the world in 2018 by granting Mechner his wish of working on another game in the series.

A new Prince of Persia has yet to be confirmed.
