It's been 10 years since Ubisoft has released a main series Prince of Persia game with The Forgotten Sands, but it seems like a new entry in the long-running franchise may finally be on the way. Ubisoft has recently registered a domain name for the unannounced Prince of Persia 6, fueling speculation that the celebrated action/platformer series will finally be making its long-awaited comeback.

Ubisoft's Prince of Persia 6 domain name registration was shared on Reddit by user NayamAmarshe. As of now, the website doesn't lead anywhere, but speculation points to it eventually directing visitors to a website for a Prince of Persia 6 video game. However, it should be noted that if Prince of Persia 6 is in development, it's unlikely that it will actually be called "Prince of Persia 6." All the other games in the series, minus the 2008 reboot, have subtitles of some kind instead of using numbered entries, and one has to imagine that trend will continue with the next game in the series.

Of course, it's possible that Ubisoft currently does not have a new Prince of Persia game in development at all, but is just taking control of the domain name just in case it decides to pursue such a project in the future. However, it's worth pointing out that this isn't the first time that we've heard of a new Prince of Persia game project recently.

Last month, a reputable video game industry leaker teased that a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was in the works. A different leak claimed that the new Prince of Persia game would be announced at Ubisoft's digital E3 replacement event for current-generation consoles as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X for release later this year, but the validity of that particular leak has been thrown into question due to recent events.

That leak claimed that Ubisoft would be releasing the new Prince of Persia game on Steam because leaving Steam for the Epic Games Store was a "mistake," but that appears to be a complete fabrication. When Ubisoft announced Assassin's Creed Valhalla, it revealed that the game would be skipping Steam for U-Play and the Epic Games Store, meaning that it's unlikely that the company would be bringing a new Prince of Persia game to Steam.

If a new Prince of Persia game is in development, there is a chance that we will learn more definitive details sooner rather than later, as the Summer Game Fest seems the like perfect opportunity for big game reveals. However, fans should keep their expectations in check.

Prince of Persia 6 is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
