Since the series trailed off following the lukewarm reception of Forgotten Sands, the Prince of Persia franchise has consistently been on its fanbase's minds, with many calling for Ubisoft to finally reboot the series for modern audiences. It seemed their prayers had been answered when a new leak revealed a domain registered for a supposed Prince of Persia 6, with the community behind the game rejoicing at the thought of finally seeing the popular series return to consoles once again.
However, it now seems as though the leaked domain might have been a fake all along, with the Reddit user who reported the emergence of the site, NayamAmarshe, beginning to poke some major flaws in the supposed domain. According to the user, it seems as though the registrar used for the domain, GoDaddy, isn't the same as Ubisoft's default when it sets up official sites, alongside some other more damning information.
According to NayamAmarshe, "This is possibly a fake domain registered by a third party instead of Ubisoft." They continue, "The domain's registrar is GoDaddy instead of Gandi SAS which is Ubisoft's default registrar. Also, the domain has a status code ClientHold which means the domain hasn't been paid for, it's probably a fake." It seems this a pretty solid accusation against the leak, especially the second half of NayamAmarshe's argument, with Ubisoft being more than likely paying upfront to secure a major internet domain seen as it's a significant video game publisher.
Of course, this isn't the only leak recently surrounding the resurrection of the Prince of Persia franchise, with recent rumors stating that Ubisoft was looking to remake The Sands of Time for modern consoles. This would supposedly come with the tease of future remakes down the line, with the thought being that Ubisoft would eventually go on to work on Ubisoft's Prince of Persia trilogy. While the leak was initially shot down by notoriously reputable leaker Zhuge, it was eventually teased to be partly real by another major leaker, Shinobi.
Regardless of whether either of these leaks turns out to be authentic, it's clear there's a lot of interest from fans in a return to the Prince of Persia series, whether that be a remake of the original games, a reboot, or a new sequel. It seems Ubisoft is testing the waters as well, with the publisher recently holding a crossover event in For Honor that implemented aspects of the Prince of Persia game. Hopefully, fans will get to see the Prince return to consoles during the rise of the next generation.
