The game has only been out for a little over a week and already speed runners have found a way to beat Prey in less than 10 minutes. The most recent world record, which still has room for improvement, is currently 6:06, but new runs are popping up every few hours.

In the video below, speed runner Prokky goes from the beginning of Prey, which has a very BioShock feel to it, to one ending in a little over 6 minutes. They do some tricks to bypass areas and he even makes a few mistakes, which means that a sub 6-minute speed run is likely around the corner. It’s also worth pointing out that all Prey speed runs do not take into account loading, since a faster loading PC for one player would give them an advantage over another.

While some will be questioning how a gamer can complete Prey in less than 10 minutes, it’s important to point out that these speed runners are glitching through walls and using clever tricks to bypass numerous areas in the game. Moreover, this category of speed run only requires getting an ending, not necessarily the best ending in the game.

In other words, don’t look at these Prey speed runs – which started coming in with times around 40 minutes – as indicative of the quality of Arkane Studios’ game. There is a lot to explore in the Talos 1 space station, and plenty of systems to interact with along the way.

That being said, it’s still impressive to see players toy around with the early tools in the game, specifically the Gloo Gun, and find ways to glitch through walls and into rooms that are supposed to be locked. Sometimes speed runs are all about execution of mechanics, and sometimes they are about finding the fastest glitch between two points.

For those that are curious, the current world record for Prey that doesn’t involve the “bad ending” is 8 minutes and 20 seconds, which is not that far off from the Leave% runs. The only difference is that the any% runs have to get to the true ending of the game, not an early, cop out type conclusion.
