Not too long ago, Hasbro, Lionsgate, and the developer nWay revealed the forthcoming fighting game, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, with the project set to launch across PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One later this year. Following the title's announcement, the aforementioned companies have confirmed that the release will support cross-play between PC, Switch, and Xbox One, but it looks as if the PS4 iteration will lack this feature.

According to a post on Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid's official website, the fighting game will have matchmaking allowing "players on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC [to] compete in the same pool." What's more is that those who decide to "swap platforms" to play the game will have their "unlocked characters and mission progressions" be accessible once they do so. Notably absent in the description of these features is the PS4, which means that the Sony console's version of the title will not be partaking in the cross-play action.

In the past, Sony has been somewhat reticent in regards to its choice to not allow cross-play on myriad PlayStation 4 releases, and it looks like it will be doubling down on this decision by disallowing the feature to be present in Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid–at least at launch, that is. After all, it's worth noting that the tech titan eventually allowed cross-play with the PS4 version of Fortnite after much fan petitioning.

Taking everything here into consideration, while the PS4 version of Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid will lack cross-play at launch, there's always the possibility that Sony could implement it down the line if enough fans demand it. Then again, there's a high chance that the fighting game won't generate a large enough audience on par with the likes of Fortnite to incentivize Sony to incorporate the feature in the future.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is scheduled to launch in April 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
