Just over a week has passed since the release of Portal 2 and already Valve is making sure we don't forget their latest release. Just a couple of days ago, Valve's Doug Lombardi claimed that DLC was being planned for Portal 2 for the summer, and now it's become official news complete with a press release.

Portals 2's first DLC is currently in development and its expected to be released sometime this summer. With its release will come a number of new features including new test chambers for players puzzle-solve. Not only that, but the original levels for both the single player and co-op campaigns will be given new challenge modes.

Beating challenges in record time isn't fun if you can't brag about it, so the DLC patch will also add leaderboards for players to compare their relative times on. Apparantly this still isn't everthing that the Portal 2 DLC brings with it, but we're going to have to wait before we get the low down on what the rest of the content is going to be.

Since its release, Portal 2 has recieved a great deal of critical acclaim, bringing it to metacritic rating of 95 and a perfect score from us. This ranking puts it as the highest rated multiplatform release of the year so far. With all this success, Valve must be excited about raking in the dough as players clamour to get their fix of more puzzles when Portal 2's first DLC hits this summer.

That's just it though, Valve isn't. How much is this DLC going to cost fans of the series? How about zero dollars. Zero euros. Zero pesos even. Valve's summer DLC is going to be released absolutely free of charge for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Mac. We love you too Valve. Lets have cake together.

Portal 2 is available now for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Mac. Its first DLC will be released sometime this summer and we'll be sure to let you know what day as soon as we know.
