February is shaping up to be an exciting time for Nintendo fans as the Japanese video game company recently released a new Nintendo Direct. During the roughly 40 minute presentation, gamers received updates about upcoming games, such as Splatoon 3 and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, while also getting first looks at never-before-seen titles, like Xenoblade Chronicles 3. In addition to these upcoming releases, the video unveiled some exciting news for Nintendo fans regarding the famous Portal series.

Among the bits of news from the February 9 Nintendo Direct, it was announced that the Portal: Companion Collection was coming to the Nintendo Switch. During the video, it was revealed that this collection contained both the iconic Portal from 2007 and the critically acclaimed sequel Portal 2 from 2011. This announcement was doubtlessly a pleasant surprise for numerous fans of Valve’s classic series, as it will give them the option to play on the go with the Switch.

Unfortunately, a release date for this upcoming bundle of Portal games was not given. However, fans did learn some other details about the collection, such as the cost. According to Valve, gamers will be able to purchase it for $19.99. In addition, the company revealed that multiplayer support was coming to the Nintendo Switch. Based on the information from the developer, Portal 2 will feature local, online, and even split-screen co-op.

Besides the nostalgic fans that are excited to play Portal: Companion Collection when it releases sometime this year, this bundle offers those that have yet to try these classic games a perfect opportunity to see what they were missing out on. Both Portal and Portal 2 became popular due to their challenging puzzles that forced players to move objects through portals in order to solve problems and stay alive. Beyond this challenging yet fun gameplay, the dialogue from the robots GLaDOS and Wheatley featured in the stories was arguably just as good.

It will be interesting to see the reception from fans when this bundle of classic games is added to the Nintendo Switch. While many fans still might be hoping for the possible announcement of Portal 3 someday in the future, this Portal: Companion Collection should help make the wait easier. However, for those that need to play a game involving the Portal series now, Bridge Constructor Portal is currently available on the Nintendo Switch. While this 2007 title is an entry in the physics-based puzzle series, Bridge Constructor, and not a sequel to the previous Portal games, it does include a Portal Gun.

Portal: Companion Collection releases on the Switch later this year.
