Ccube the portable gamecube

Within the gaming community there is a certain group of people who aren't satisfied with playing the portable consoles video game companies provide. Something makes them want to take it one step further and bring the experience of home gaming any and everywhere. Those that have this desire, as well as the requisite tinkering ability, put loads of time, effort, and money into cramming consoles into cases and creating ultra-cool portable machines, such as Tchay777's semi-portable Nintendo GameCube, named the Ccube.

At first glance, it looks like a throwback to the original Nintendo portable game system/self-defense weapon, the GameBoy, but it is assuredly all GameCube inside. Taking about a year to complete, Tchay777 is finally able to show off (and hopefully profit from) his first mod.

In a YouTube video in which he briefly explains certain design features of the Ccube, Tchay77 demonstrates the functionality of the device by playing a few games. The first he boots up is Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Resident Evil 4, and Metroid Prime. The games play wonderfully and perfectly on the Ccube's 3.5-inch screen, and the controls seemed to be adequately ergonomic. Take a look.

One might think something like this wouldn't be very appealing, especially as it would be expensive to buy and is only semi-portable, requiring the use of the power cable. However, a surprising number of people have made offers for the device, proving that nostalgia is a powerful thing. Owning a Ccube would probably be one of the coolest and nerdiest things to do, and if you are a gamer who isn't enthralled by the recently released 3DS, the Ccube is a venue to play great Nintendo games in assorted places (with power outlets).

Considering that this is his first mod, one can reasonably expect Tchay to move onto bigger and badder things. There have already been laptop versions of the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360, what will modders such as Tchay set their soldering iron-sights on next?
