Rare video games are the most coveted prize for serious video game collectors, as they significantly boost the value of their collection. Oftentimes these rare games are released as part of a special event and so limited copies are made, and other times, they are titles that didn't sell well at launch, and so only one run of physical copies was ever released. Oftentimes, the rarest video games are at least somewhat recognizable to the general public (liked sealed copies of the original Super Mario Bros., for instance), but the same may not be able to be said about the PS4's rarest game, Poop Slinger.

Poop Slinger is a game that was released on Steam and PS4 in 2018, with very few people seeming to know that it even exists. Then out of nowhere, a brand new company called Limited Rare Games, run by a Russian person based out of South Carolina, decided to take out a bank loan to fund a limited run, physical release of the game. Limited Rare Games then attempted to sell through its stock of 820 physical copies of Poop Slinger on PS4 through a strange, bare-bones website written mostly in Russian that many assumed was a scam.

Poop Slinger went on sale on April 1 for around $30 (the price was later increased to $50), and it only managed to sell 84 copies. Creditors apparently seized the rest of the units, meaning that there are currently only 84 copies of the physical version of Poop Slinger on PS4 out in the wild, making it the rarest physical PS4 game by a significant margin.

As some may expect, the fact that Poop Slinger is so rare has seen its prices skyrocket on the secondhand market. On eBay, we've seen new copies of Poop Slinger sell for as high as $11,399.99, though most listings are around the $400 range.

While some may scoff at the idea of a game like Poop Slinger selling for thousands of dollars, there is precedent for rare games selling for a lot more than that. For example, the NES game Stadium Events sold for a stunning $55,000 at auction a couple of years ago, and a sealed copy of the original Super Mario Bros. has sold for as high as $30,000 in the past.

Assuming more physical copies of Poop Slinger on PS4 aren't made in the future, it's likely that its price and value will only go up. For hardcore video game collectors, it may actually be a steal to get the game for just $400 right now.

Poop Slinger is out now for PC and PS4.
