Many Twitch streamers have been critical of the platform in recent months, which has been exacerbated by the company looking at other ways to approach ads during livestreams. Popular Twitch streamer Pokimane recently expressed her enthusiasm for less intrusive ads, which garnered an unflattering reaction from LinusTechTips. Recently, Pokimane responded to these comments.
Imane "Pokimane" Anys recently took to Twitter to express how she felt about LinusTechTips making what she described as "hurtful" comments about her during a recent podcast. Pokimane had previously suggested less intrusive ads for Twitch viewers who aren't subscribed so that they aren't discouraged from sticking around because some livestreamers are contractually required to run ads during their streams. As a result of Pokimane sharing her ideas, Linus discussed how problematic changing the existing ad system would be and how her method would result in fewer profits for advertisers.
Pokimane has stated in a lengthy Twitter post and exchange with LinusTechTips that he came off as "mocking" during the aforementioned podcast, and she found being referred to as a "nameless creator" was "odd and hurtful." Pokimane pointed out the nuance in the ad conversation in this long post as she stated that she understands the complexities of moving to a less intrusive Twitch ad system and contrasting this with pondering that the existing system isn't perfect. Another issue Pokimane took with LinusTechTips' podcast is that the content creator had criticized her idea without providing a proper alternative of his own.
In response to Pokimane, LinusTechTips has apologized for how he addressed her Twitch advertising ideas, and he admitted to the popular livestreamer that he was frustrated and came off as rude. LinusTechTips has some technical know-how that many others don't, and he's seen the difficulties associated with building a sustainable video platform in addition to the other projects he tinkers with and many PCs he builds. Linus also reached out to Pokimane in their chat by stating that he and his team could help her with multi-platform streaming based on resources they've already put into it.
LinusTechTips is known to pull few punches as several months ago he built a gag PC with references to communism for Twitch streamer HasanAbi. Pokimane has also been embroiled in controversy from time to time as she and Ninja and Jessica Blevins exchanged some negative sentiments toward each other. In addition, Pokimane only recently made amends with JiDion, a different streamer who sent his community to her channel in what was thought of as a Twitch hate raid. Although both LinusTechTips and Pokimane have been involved in their own drama in the past, the two seem to have been able to patch things up rather quickly and could be on better terms today than prior to the conversation.
