Filmmaker Rian Johnson is back with another interesting murder mystery in the form of Poker Face. The streaming service Peacock brings the 10-episode series to life in January 2023 and has just revealed the first teaser trailer of the Natasha Lyonne-starring show. From the looks of it, it’s going to be a comical and mysterious ride, with a killer on the loose.

Poker Face will mark the television directorial debut for Johnson, who is best known for his extremely successful murder mystery Knives Out. He is bringing his unique style to the small screen on Peacock, with Lyonne's Charlie Cale taking on the role of lead investigator this time. There seem to be many actors involved in the series, possibly making guest appearances as potential wrongdoers. It will all be revealed when the series premieres on January 26 with four episodes, followed by weekly episodes being released every Thursday.

The Poker Face teaser trailer begins with Adrien Brody's character enlisting Cale's help because she has the uncanny ability “of always knowing the truth.” It seems like he wants her assistance at some kind of casino. Cale, however, reveals that she is able to tell whether somebody is lying or not, which is a key talent to have when solving a murder mystery. When a murder occurs, and Cale comes onto the case, she not only has to figure out who did it, but also deal with Lil Rel Howery's town sheriff who is convinced that there was no foul play and the “death is not mysterious, but tragic.”

The Poker Face teaser trailer features several guest stars, many of which have been previously confirmed as a part of the series’ cast roster. The upcoming show boasts a star-studded cast, with appearances from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ron Perlman, Colton Ryan, Megan Suri, Stephanie Hsu, Tim Blake Nelson, and Elijah George, among many others. Lyonne's Orange is the New Black co-star Dascha Polanco also makes an appearance in the teaser trailer, and it remains unknown how any of these people will be a part of the various episodes.

The official Poker Face synopsis confirms that Lyonne's protagonist will be going on a “cross-country road trip” and meet “a rogue’s gallery of characters and avenges a new injustice each episode, armed with little more than her uncanny ability to detect lies.” Each episode will feature a new puzzle “masterfully crafted” by Johnson himself.

Poker Face premieres on Peacock on January 26, 2023.
