There are still 38 Pokemon that players can't catch in any of the Nintendo Switch Pokemon video games, though it's possible that will change with future games and potential Scarlet and Violet DLC. Nintendo and Game Freak have released multiple Pokemon games for the Nintendo Switch, giving fans of the franchise the opportunity to significantly grow their roster of Pokemon in the process.

The first Nintendo Switch Pokemon games were 2018's Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, remakes of the Generation 1 Pokemon games that incorporated many elements from the popular mobile hit Pokemon GO. They were followed up in 2019 by Pokemon Sword and Shield, which also saw post-launch support in the form of DLC expansion packs that gave players new areas to explore and Pokemon to catch. From there, Pokemon fans were treated to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in 2021, with 2022 seeing the launch of both Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Despite how many Pokemon games have released for the Nintendo Switch so far, there are still 38 Pokemon that can't be obtained in any of the available Switch games. This was recently pointed out by Reddit user bruinjohn, who included an image showing all 38 Pokemon that can't be caught in any of the Nintendo Switch Pokemon games yet. Notably, the list includes many Pokemon that originated in the Generation 5 Pokemon games, Pokemon Black and White, and that may actually be by design. Here is the list of Pokemon currently missing from Switch Pokemon games, listed in order of Pokedex number.

Based on the patterns established by Game Freak and Nintendo, it's likely that Pokemon Black and White remakes are next up when it comes to main series Pokemon game releases. If that happens, then many of these Pokemon could be crossed off the list.

It's also possible some of these Pokemon will be introduced as part of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC. There are rumors that Game Freak and Nintendo are planning big DLC packs for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet similar to what was released for Pokemon Sword and Shield. If those rumors are true, then it's quite possible that some of these Pokemon will be included in the DLC. Some of the rumors have claimed that the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC will be Kalos-themed, which could help introduce the Generation 6 Pokemon that have yet to make their debut, but fans should keep their expectations in check for now.

There are a couple of caveats with this list that Pokemon fans should keep in mind. For one, it's possible to get Deoxys in one's Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games by trading to it, though he is not actually obtainable in the games themselves. The other thing to point out is that the Hisuian Samurott is obtainable in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it's just the original version of the Pokemon that can't be caught in any of the Switch games.
