One Pokemon fan shared an image explaining why Wiglett is not a regional form of Diglett. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are right around the corner and are set to be released in November. Fans eagerly await the upcoming Pokemon title and the new pocket monsters it will introduce. Koraidon, Smoliv, Miraidon, Pawmi, and Lechonk are some of the famous new Pokemon from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
The Pokemon Company officially introduced Wiglett, a brand-new Pokemon from the Paldea region in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The announcement was made via a trailer that confirmed Wiglett to be a water-type Pokemon. The new pocket monster was shown alongside Diglett in a beach setting. Wiglett and Diglett have similar sounding names and also nearly identical appearances, but the Pokemon Company has confirmed they are not related. Many fans initially believed Wiglett to be a regional variant of Diglett, which was untrue. Now, a Pokemon fan has come forward to explain why those two are not regional variants of one another.
Reddit user RJS_but_on_Reddit shared an image to clarify the confusion regarding the similarities between Wiglett and Diglett. The photo shows eight pocket monsters categorized in four rows and mentions the animals they were based on. The first three rows show Pokemon that are regional forms of one another, like Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew, both of which are based on pangolins. The following two rows contain Zigzagoon and the Pokemon Galarian Zigzagoon, who are based on raccoons, and the axolotl Pokemon Wooper and Paldean Wooper. The final row shows Wiglett and Diglett, who are based on eels and moles, respectively, suggesting no correlation between them.
Pokemon fans on Reddit gave more than 10,000 upvotes to the post and applauded the original poster for clearing the ambiguity surrounding Wiglett and Diglett. At the same time, Wiglett has received a lukewarm response from the Pokemon community, many of whom were looking forward to seeing it as a Paldean version of Diglett.
As things stand, not much is known about Wiglett except that it's a water-type Pokemon commonly found in coastal areas. Even though it bears a strong resemblance to Diglett, it has a more elongated body. Many fans believe these two pocket monsters have a common ancestor, and they adapted to evolve body structures suitable for their environment. It will be interesting to see how fans will respond when Wiglett is available as a playable Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
