Wall breakers are meant to wear down defensive teams in Pokemon. Some of them are tanky, which is good for giving and taking damage on the field. Wall breakers use Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) moves, abilities, and Status Changing Setups to destroy opponents. Even the bulkiest Pokemon can't survive against a good Wall breaker.

Offensive sets are popular in the competitive world, especially the Pokemon Video Game Championships (VGC). Teams take advantage of this by stacking up defensive Cores, and Wall breakers help eliminate such a roadblock for players. So, let's get into the best Wall breakers in competitive battles.

Metagross

Pokemon VGC Tanks Metagross

HP: 80

Attack: 135

Defense: 130

Sp. Atk: 95

Sp. Def: 90

Speed: 70

Metagross is a Steel/Psych-type Pokemon with mean Defense and Attack stats. It can survive many Sweepers, so it won't be KO without having time to put in some damage. Its STAB moves include Psychic, Iron Head, and Flash Cannon. Its type coverage goes further than not, with Poison, Ground, Thunder, and Dark-type moves available.

Defensively it's staying in play, even against Intimidate setters, with its ability Clear Body and bulk of 80/130/90. Sending it out with a healer or recovery options will extend its long life. Still, players should be wary of Dark, Ground, and Fire types. Metagross lacks its own recovery options, so a Held Item or Healer Pokemon goes a long way.

Aggron

HP: 70

Attack: 110

Defense: 180

Sp. Atk: 60

Sp. Def: 60

Speed: 50

Aggron is a reliable Wall breaker. Its dual Steel-typing beefs up its Defense, so players can rest easily against offensive leads. Aggron has many hard-hitting moves that often have low survivability, and its STAB options are top-tier. Its Rock-type attack moves include but are not limited to Rock Tomb and Rock Slide. Both have a steep Attack power, but their accuracy is hit or miss. Its Steel-type moves are more reliable with options like Iron Head and Flash Cannon.

It does need help in the Speed department, especially if going against Fighting types (which tend to be faster and threaten it with a 4X weakness). A Choice Scarf, Quick Claw, or Custap Berry is perfect for increasing Speed stats or move priority. The defensive move Automize also affects Speed. However, if its opponent still manages to outspeed it, players can use Metal Sound or Iron Defense to boost Aggron's Defense stats so that it can absorb damage more easily.

Heracross

HP: 80

Attack: 125

Defense: 75

Sp. Atk: 40

Sp. Def: 95

Speed: 85

Heracross is one of the few Bug-type Pokemon that packs a mean punch on the battlefield. It is a dual Bug/Fighting type that first appeared in Generation 2 and has managed to hold up since. This can mainly be accredited to its ability, Guts, which is a massive bonus in competitive matches. Whenever a Status Condition inflects Heracross, its Attack stat is increased. Status-Condition Setters like Poison and Fire-types and entry hazards like Toxic Spikes make this Pokemon shine.

Its STAB moves include Fighting-type staples such as Brick Break, Revenge, and Close Combat. It even has an excellent Bug-type option from Megahorn. Players gain a considerable advantage over Dark-types as it is both resistant and Super Effective against them due to its typing. Heracross is particularly vulnerable to Flying-types, so an Electric-type partner Pokemon would be able to eliminate this weakness.

Chandelure

pokemon

HP: 60

Attack: 55

Defense: 90

Sp. Atk: 145

Sp. Def: 90

Speed: 80

Chandelure is a dual Ghost/Fire-type Pokemon. Its Sp. Atk is incredibly high, and the 'Mon is equipped with STAB options like Shadow Ball, Overheat, and Mythical Fire. Players should lead with this Wall breaker because it is exceptionally vulnerable to Stealth Rock. If going against faster Pokemon, Chandelure can use Trick Room to swap the move priority on the field. This will maintain it or any bulkier allies a chance to throw down their best damaging moves.

Chandelure can also set up two good Fire-type supportive moves, Will-O-Wisp and Fire Spin. Will-O-Wisp will burn its opponents, and Fire Spin traps them in a flaming vortex for 2-5 turns. Its ability Flame Body will also pull in passive burn damage when it is hit with a contact move, which somewhat makes up for its average Defense Stat.

Tyranitar

Gen 2 Pokémon

HP: 100

Attack: 134

Defense: 110

Sp. Atk: 95

Sp. Def: 100

Speed: 61

Tyranitar, without a doubt, is one of the best offensive Wall breakers. It is a dual Rock/Dark-type Pokemon introduced in Generation 2. Its ability, Sandstream, allows it to immediately set up the opposing team to passive damage from Hailstorms, and it has Stealth Rock to double down on this. Its STAB moves are likely to be OHKOs, with Crunch, Dark Pulse, and Foul Play as viable options. Tyranitar can go toe-to-toe against most opponents with a Fire, Water, and Ice move coverage and immunity to Electric-types.

Still, Tyranitar has to deal with a 4X weakness to Fighting-type Pokemon. So a Screen Setter would be beneficial; even better, if its teammate is a Psychic-type, it can keep Fighting-types in check while Tyranitar handles the defensive Core Pokemon.
