The Pokemon Company's multiplayer online battle arena video game Pokemon Unite is hitting its two-year milestone in 2022. Since launch, the developers have kept its player base engaged by hosting competitive events and adding new playable characters to the Pokemon Unite roster. Recently, a new commercial about Pokemon Unite was released, alongside new information from The Pokemon Company that the video game has already passed 70 million downloads on the Switch and mobile devices.

When Pokemon Unite was first announced in 2020, many in the community expressed their skepticism about a MOBA title based on the pocket creature universe. However, the developers worked hard to build the title, its Pokemon roster, and a variety of gameplay features. This led to Pokemon Unite reaching a milestone of 50 million downloads in December 2021. Though the growth may seem to have slowed down, reaching a 70 million download mark is still an impressive feat, given how highly competitive the MOBA space is.

On the official Japanese Pokemon Youtube channel, a new promotional commercial about Pokemon Unite was recently released. Though the footage did not reveal anything new about the MOBA title, it did emphasize the playability of Pokemon Unite on mobile devices and the Nintendo Switch. However, what is important to take note of is what is written on the post's description box. According to Google Translate, Pokemon Unite has reached over 70 million downloads around the world and across its available platforms.

A popular Pokemon fan site posted about this feat on Twitter, giving global fans access to the good news. Comments and replies on the Twitter post show a mix of the community's sentiments. Many congratulated the game for hitting the large number of downloads, reiterating that they still consider the game fun to play. Others expressed their disappointment for gameplay issues such as matchmaking problems, the presence of bots in the system, and the pay-to-win aspect. Though the devs seem keen to make Pokemon Unite feel less pay to win, players who already had this experience may be quite hard to convince to keep playing the game.

Despite all the flak and negative feedback, Pokemon Unite continues to bring more content to the table. Recently, Water type Pokemon Azumarill was added to the roster and, now, holiday events such as Easter celebrations have been implemented in-game. Hopefully the devs continue with their content updates to bring more Pokemon fans into the Pokemon Unite community.

Pokemon Unite is available now on Mobile and Nintendo Switch.
