Pokemon Unite is a unique beast in the Pokemon franchise. Rather than relying solely on the titular pocket monsters in battle, those participating in this MOBA also utilize various items. These can be either Held or Battle Items.

Sadly, each player can only bring one Battle Item into a match. As such, it's all the more important to choose wisely. As more of these enhancements become available, finding the right one for your playstyle is essential. Mastering a Battle Item can benefit one's entire team and turn the tide of any match.

8 Fluffy Tail

Charizard and a wild Pokemon in Pokemon Unite

At first glance, this Battle Item's benefits seem unparalleled. The sad truth is that they only apply to special conditions. Specifically, the Fluffy Tail only affects wild Pokemon; it can't be used on trained Pokemon.

That said, the benefits it bestows keep it from being totally useless. When the Battle Item is active, players deal greater damage against wild opponents. On top of that, these enemies can't act for a brief time. This makes them easy to dispatch while saving one's energy for the trained Pokemon. If the match calls for the right conditions, then the Fluffy Tail isn't a bad Battle Item to have.

7 X Attack

Pikachu attacks in Pokemon Unite

This is another offensive item, but it's slightly more useful in this competitive setting. The X Attack raises the damage stats of all attacks; these include regular strikes and special movies. While this gives players a slight edge when going against both wild and trained Pokemon, the stat boost isn't as significant as one might expect.

In reality, this Battle Item only increases one's attack power by a few points. On top of that, it doesn't last very long. These shortcomings place X Attack lower on the tier.

6 X Speed

The second stat boost Battle Item is a definite upgrade. Not only are its effects more noticeable than the X Attack, but it boasts two benefits for the price of one. Obviously, it increases a Pokemon's movement speed by a big margin, easily outrunning any opponent.

In addition, activating it also prevents said Pokemon from losing speed through stat debuffs. This means that smoke and other slowing attacks won't affect the player. With two great uses like these, the X Speed is a solid and reliable Battle Item for any player.

5 Potion

Potion in Pokemon Unite

This is the first Battle Item available to players, and it's a decent one to start with. As in any game, the Potion helps Pokemon regain some of their HP. This is desirable in any situation, be it in a more battle-centric title or this one. Players here obviously need Pokemon to score goals, so keeping them alive is essential.

The downside is that the Potion doesn't remove any negative status effects plaguing one's Pokemon. Basically, it's only a patchwork fix. Thankfully, though, this is offset by the generous cooldown time, which ensures multiple uses within a short period.

4 Goal-Getter

Scoring a goal in Pokemon Unite

Considering the whole point of Pokemon Unite is to score goals, a Battle Item enhancing that would naturally be valuable. Indeed, the Goal-Getter doubles the speed at which players achieve these points. Sadly, it also comes with a big catch.

Namely, the cooldown is 120 seconds. This is admittedly doesn't seem like much on its own. In fast-paced games like MOBAs, though, it feels like an eternity. This downside is so significant that it casts a shadow over the whole experience, preventing the Goal-Getter from being the game-changer that it should be.

3 Slow Smoke

Slow Smoke in Pokemon Unite

This is useful in highly competitive moments. As the name suggests, the Slow Smoke unleashes a cloud of smoke that surrounds the player's Pokemon and slows others to a crawl. If two players are racing toward a goal, deploying this Battle Item practically cripples one. This can either open it up for a free attack or prevent it from chasing a hopeful goal-scorer.

To maintain game balance, it only works for a few seconds. That, coupled with the lengthy cooldown time, prevents it from being too overpowered. Players can't just spam it in perpetuity. Rather, it's a momentary trap that provides a quick little leg up on an opponent.

2 Eject Button

Eject Button in Pokemon Unite

In some ways, this is the natural evolution (no apologies) of the X Speed. While it doesn't boost a Pokemon's movement, it does offer an enticing alternative: teleportation. The Eject Button instantly beams a Pokemon to a specific point onscreen.

Unfortunately, players can't port across the whole arena willy-nilly. The Battle Item only covers a short distance, after all, but it can get one's Pokemon through walls and other environmental obstacles. In these games, a few precious seconds can make all the difference, and practiced players can time their ports so that enemies can't even touch them. For those willing to put in that practice, the Eject Button can be an underrated yet unbeatable boon for mobility.

1 Full Heal

Pikachu and a wounded ally in Pokemon Unite

It should come as no surprise that this item ranks as the best. Any consumable that restores lost health is valuable in video games, and this is no exception. Full Heal removes all negative status conditions from one's Pokemon. However, that's only half the benefit.

This Battle Item also makes Pokemon immune to negative status effects for a short time. In essence, it not only repairs the damage done, but it offers defense against future assaults. This way, players' Pokemon can stay in the game for longer without having to worry about healing up, which will free them to focus purely on scoring goals. Suffice it to say, that goes a long way toward winning the game.
