Nintendo and the Pokemon Company have officially confirmed Dusk Lycanroc as Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon's first new Pokemon, almost a week after Japanese media first made the reveal. While Rockruff's new evolution form may not be as much of a surprise in itself, there are some new details to share that Pokemon fans might be interested in, namely the limited distribution of Dusk Lycanroc as well as a new Japanese trailer for Dusk Lycanroc.

The most important revelation today is that not just any Rockruff can evolve into Dusk Lycanroc. In order to acquire this now semi-rare Pokemon, trainers will have to buy Pokemon Ultra Sun or Pokemon Ultra Moon at launch or soon thereafter. A unique Rockruff will be made available via Nintendo Network wireless distribution from launch day, November 17, through January 10. Players will then have to evolve the Rockruff to Dusk Lycanroc on their own.

Additional details on Dusk Form Lycanroc have also been shared, showing how despite its unique appearance the Pokemon is mostly a mishmash of its Midday and Midnight Forms. Like both previous forms, Dusk Lycanroc is Rock-type. It normally stands on all fours like Midday Lycanroc, but when it attacks its eyes glow red like Midnight Lycanroc. Unique to the Dusk Form is the ability Tough Claws, so it does stand out compared to its siblings.

Dusk Lycanroc's move-set will complement its balance between Midday and Midnight forms as well. Dusk Lycanroc will learn both Accelerock, a Rock-type move favored by Midday Lycanroc, and Counter, a Fighting-type move favored by Midnight Lycanroc. Each of these moves was Lycanroc-specific in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, earned through Rockruff evolution. That Dusk Lycanroc can learn both should be exciting, so long as trainers are able to remember to pick it up via distribution.

Finally, Nintendo shared one last non-Lycanroc related detail today. For a limited time, purchasing Pokemon Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon will include a special keychain plush for free. The plush included is random, so you can't pick what you get, but it will definitely be an Alola region Pokemon plush. It's unclear whether this deal is exclusive to purchases made through the Pokemon Center store or whether it will be coming to other retailers soon.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon release on November 17, 2017, for Nintendo 3DS.
