The Pokemon games have a lot of moving parts. While the games are relatively simple, they contain various elements to help keep individual battles interesting. One of those aspects is the type system. At its core, it is a complex version of rock-paper-scissors. However, the existence of Pokemon types allows for designers to have a guideline when creating new 'Mons. As such, the various types tend to have similar aspects shared between fellow 'Mons.

This allows fans to further use these types to explain their own personal quirks. There have been a few Twitter trends involving getting friends to assign a type combination to the poster. It's a fun little exercise and serves as a great lead into applying them to Zodiac signs.

12 Aquarius: Flying

Staraptor, Drifloon, and Unfezant

An Aquarius is a person who does not like to be bound by guidelines or restrictions. They tend to be forward-thinking, not looking at the world in a static way. They also prefer to work with others towards changing the world for the better. At the same time, they can often be aloof and disconnected from those bound to the ground.

These mirror the common traits of Flying-types. Flying Pokemon come in many different flavors, and it often tends to be a complimentary typing rather than a primary type. Flying Pokemon, however, always move with purpose. They're flexible fighters and are quick to adapt to combat situations. Plus, Aquarius is an air sign, so it fits.

11 Pisces: Water

Initially, it may seem like having Water-types represent Pisces is a cop-out. It's a bit too obvious at a glance. However, after further examination, it fits perfectly. Water-types are often not as quick in battle, but rather gentle. They come in many lovely colors and can fill a supportive role at times. However, they're still strong in their own ways.

This reflects a Pisces. Pisces are usually kind, gentle, and compassionate. They have solid empathy and want to assist others when possible. A Pisces is often artistically-minded as well, which fits with a number of water-type Pokemon. Creatures like Milotic or Primarina fit with the ideal Pisces perfectly. It's an obvious answer because it just makes the most sense.

10 Aries: Fighting

Pokemon Fighting

Instinct says that an Aries is the Fire-type. It's a fire-sign, and Aries tend to be confident, headstrong, and often quick to anger. However, Aries are also defined by optimism, honesty, and passion. They're committed to their goals and don't often deviate. They'll go through any challenges, regardless of the dangers, to see their destiny through. These aspects, in my mind, lend themselves to the Fighting-type.

Fighting Pokemon are similarly headstrong and straightforward. They're great leaders and are confident in their own power. Fighting Pokemon like Machop or Tyrogue are committed to a goal of becoming stronger. It's a self-driven motivation and ideal for an Aries. As an aside, Aries do also like to start fights, so but that's more anecdotal.

9 Taurus: Ground

As an Earth sign, the Taurus is grounded within the world. They take everything in, both the good and bad, and appreciate the stability of life as it is. A Taurus is also patient, but uncompromising. They're willing to wait for the world to adjust to them, but may not be willing to adjust for the world. That's a beautiful thing, and something represented in Ground Pokemon.

Ground Pokemon are often rather bulky Pokemon, and many are immovable. They have few weaknesses and are a great addition onto most Pokemon. They're mostly hands-on fighters, with few ground Pokemon using special attacks. They've lived with the earth their whole lives, and are happy to keep things put together.

8 Gemini: Psychic

Depicting alakazam, sigilyph and starmie.

The twins of Gemini represent curiosity, adaptability, and a desire to learn everything there is to know about the world. They share a fascination with the world as an object of study. They'll enjoy learning as much as possible from as many sources as possible. It's an admirable trait and one that shows great awareness.

Psychic Pokemon are similarly trying to learn more about the world around them. They read situations and arenas with ease, able to adapt their fighting styles based on opponents. There's a reason they're often so feared within the anime, for instance, as they are a challenge to defeat in battle.

7 Cancer: Fairy

Clefable and Azurmaril as presented in the anime, Galarian Rapidash

Cancer was somewhat hard to define based on a type within the games. Cancers are deeply emotional and very much intuitive of how others feel. They understand their own emotions and the emotions of others and are able to navigate those emotions with mixed success. They can be loyal, but they can also be manipulative and dubious.

The first read was Dark Pokemon, but Fairy seems to fit more accurately. Perhaps both are equally appropriate. Fairy Pokemon are very much loyal and empathetic partners. Pokemon like Hatterene have entries about their ability to read emotions. At the same time, Fairy Pokemon are natural trickers, though their motivations aren't malicious. This makes them a solid fit for the Cancer sign.

6 Leo: Fire

Leo is another fire-sign, and unlike Aries, is more directly representative of the Fire-type. Consider what Fire Pokemon represent: passion, confidence, warmth, but also often stubbornness. The best example of an average Fire Pokemon may be Ash's Charizard: a strong partner who's rather powerful, but also a bit egotistical and only engages in exciting fights.

In the same way, Leo's share warmth in their presence. People are naturally drawn to Leos as leaders, and Leos certainly like the attention. Leos are also very much driven by internal passions and have the blind confidence to do what they want. They're fun people to have around, even if they can be a bit much. This is very much similar to the average Fire Pokemon.

5 Virgo: Steel

A Virgo is someone who doesn't take the spotlight. They prefer to hold back, read situations, and respond after careful thinking. They may not be quick to make decisions, but they make very thorough decisions. Planning is very important to a Virgo. Oddly enough, the type that seemed to best represent Virgo is the Steel-type.

The trope is that Virgos are often fragile emotionally, and steel Pokemon are far from fragile. At the same time, Steel-types have a similar aura to a Virgo. They take a step back in battle, taking as long as they need to figure out the right moves. They're rooted in the world around them. Steel-types are also constructed in a logical, organized way in their design. They also are a great secondary-typing, which shows the lack of willingness to take the spotlight.

4 Libra: Grass

Chikorita, Snivy, and Gogoat

Grass Pokemon live in harmony with everything around them. They can flourish in nearly every climate, at least in some form. Even in desert climates, there are grass Pokemon like Cacnea or Maractus. If any type best represents a mutually beneficial relationship between Pokemon and the environment, grass is it.

In the same way, Libra's live in harmony with the world around them. They bring out the best in others around them, and are great at diplomacy and cooperation. They function well in any environment, although they do have a preference for being outdoors. Grass-types and Libras are both capable of supporting their partners and bringing the best out of the world.

3 Scorpio: Dragon

Pokemon Haxorus and Bagon

Scorpios are rather assertive and bold. They're more aggressive than other water-signs, willing to start fights when necessary. At the same time, Scorpios are also brave, ready to take on challenges that come their way. They live a very face-up sort of life, not willing to play games of trickery. This makes them great friends and allies.

Dragon-type Pokemon are similarly bold and brave. They move forward, taking on challenges as they appear. They don't back down from confrontation. At the same time, most Dragon Pokemon are rather straightforward fighters. Few resort to tricks and games to get an advantage, instead winning through a strong will. They make great companions for any strong-willed trainer.

2 Sagittarius: Electric

A Sagittarius is often a lighthearted individual. They take everything in stride, always assuming the best is yet to come. At the same time, they're often impatient and will not just wait for trouble to find them. They zip around, traveling and seeing new places and people just for the thrill of it. The last thing a Sagittarius wants to be is constrained.

Electric-type Pokemon are similar. While they are less aggressive than their explosive fire-type counterparts, they certainly don't sit still. Pokemon like Rotom zip around from device to device, causing mischief with no regard for consequences. This gets some electric Pokemon in over their heads. Plus, if the anime has taught fans anything, is that keeping a Pikachu contained is an impossible feat.

1 Capricorn: Normal

The Chansey Pokemon species

The last sign, Capricorn, is one that represents responsibility and tradition. They have discipline, although they may feel this makes them better than others around them. Traditions are key to a Capricorn, and deviation from those traditions is met with hesitancy. They're internally independent and can thrive in any environment given enough time.

Normal-type Pokemon are similarly disciplined. They come from many different backgrounds and regions but share many traditions and similarities. For example, many Normal-types are capable of learning a variety of TMs. They adapt to the situations around them, but never lose themselves. Normal Pokemon are also capable of self-control, aside from a few outliers. They're reliable and responsible, like a Capricorn.
