Pokemon anime fans who were excited to see Ash and friends explore the Galar region were disappointed to hear that the next (and currently running) anime season would not fully deliver. The new Pokemon anime season instead has Ash visiting all of the previous Pokemon locations, though Galar is planned to be a stop, too. For Pokemon Sword and Shield players hoping for a more thorough tour of Galar, the news was frustrating. But The Pokemon Company has been paying attention, it seems, and now has a solution.

While Ash and friends may only be briefly stopping in Galar during the latest season of the Pokemon anime, Galar will be a much bigger focus in an all-new Pokemon cartoon. On Friday The Pokemon Company revealed Pokemon: Twilight Wings, an online-only series that is said to be entirely set in Galar and Galar alone. Pokemon: Twilight Wings is scheduled to air in January 2020 and will run exclusively on the official Pokemon YouTube channel.

Like other Pokemon cartoons run on the Pokemon YouTube channel, Pokemon: Twilight Wings isn't really a full-fledged show like the Pokemon anime is. For one, these YouTube episodes will be much shorter than a normal 20+ minute television episode. Each of Pokemon: Twilight Wings episodes will be around 5 minutes long. The cartoon will also be much shorter overall. Pokemon: Twilight Wings will only have seven total episodes. That's just 35 minutes of animation overall, which is bingeable in one YouTube setting. But it's better than nothing.

Some small details about the new cartoon were shared as part of the announcement. The show will focus on "the dreams of Galar's residents" as well as the "challenges they must overcome." The Pokemon Company also confirms that the cartoon will feature many of the Galar-exclusive Pokemon that Pokemon Sword and Switch players have met and now know so well. It will hopefully provide just the sort of deeper dive into Galar that the Pokemon anime may not end up doing.

This isn't the first time that The Pokemon Company has done a YouTube-exclusive show. Pokemon Generations is an 18-episode series released through Youtube that showed off content and stories originally referenced in the Pokemon video games. Pokemon: Twilight Wings can likely be considered the progeny of Pokemon Generations, much like how Pokemon Generations spun out of the popularity of Pokemon Chronicles and Pokemon Origins.

Pokemon: Twilight Wings begins airing on January 15 on the official Pokemon Youtube channel.
