The world of Trading Card Game enthusiasts has suffered a loss today as Pokemon TCG Online has shut down its servers. This means that the digital version of the Pokemon card game will no longer be available for players.Pokemon TCG Online was initially released in 2011. It used to be the perfect way for players to bring the tabletop card game to the online world. The game allowed players to challenge computer-controlled opponents or face off against other players with their own decks online. The game received over 10 years of support and was released on platforms such as Android and iOS.Unfortunately, the Pokemon TCG Online app has had its online services terminated today by The Pokemon Company. This was done to make way for the upcoming release of Pokemon TCG Live, which will be available on PC and mobile devices on June 8, 2023. This new iteration of the app will allow players to continue battling each other with their custom decks and has been thoroughly tested through its beta phase across all devices worldwide. The shutdown of the Pokemon TCG Online's servers was scheduled back in May and the app was officially removed from all app stores and the website on June 5.
Pokemon TCG Online players can migrate their card collections to Pokemon TCG Live once the app goes live in a few days. However, it should be noted that the migration process will come with its own limitations such as only being allowed to transfer four copies of a single card upon transfer. As such, players should be careful while choosing the cards that won't make the cut to the next game.
This new iteration will bring several new features to the online experience, such as a fleshed-out Ranked Ladder and support for cosmetics and card backs. The latter will be available through microtransaction purchases or by completing the game's Battle Pass. Pokemon Live TCG also allows players to battle each other on mobile devices, something Pokemon TCG Online couldn't do before. As such, players should get their best Pokemon TCG cards ready for this new game.
