Pokemon Sword and Shield fans have been waiting almost a year for the newest mythical Pokemon to be added to the game. The extremely rare and powerful Zarude has finally arrived, and players in the US are starting to receive the code to retrieve the mythical Pokemon in-game.

For those who wanted to receive Zarude, Nintendo asked simply that players sign up for the Pokemon Trainer Club newsletter before the cut off last month. Emails are now being sent out and the players can add the mythical monkey to their collection. Zarude is a Dark/Grass type and Nintendo is giving out a Level 60 Zarude that comes with the moves Close Combat, Power Ship, Swagger, and Snarl.

Pokemon Sword and Shield's newest expansion, Crown Tundra, saw many new Pokemon. But it is far to say that a mythical creature like Zarude is even more exciting. The Pokemon is very rare and quite strong, so those who were able to sign up for the newsletters are likely quite happy. To finish the transaction and add Zarude to the game, players must go to the Mystery Gift from the menu screen, select Get with a Code/Password, connect online, and enter the code that was sent in the email from Nintendo.

It has been a long wait, as Zarude was delayed after being set to release in August in Japan, so the Pokemon finally coming to the US is exciting. Being a mythical Pokemon, Zarude is available to collect from outside of the game, meaning it cannot be found inside of Pokemon Sword and Shield. While this used to mean standing in line to trade for Mew in a Toys R Us, today it means that the mythical Pokemon are usually attached to promotional events with downloads and codes.

Zarude has been quite busy lately, as the Pokemon is also starring in the upcoming animated film Pokemon: Secrets of the Jungle. Along with being added to Pokemon Sword and Shield, Zarude also debuted in the Sword & Shield—Vivid Voltage trading card expansion. The Pokemon Company and Nintendo often promote the new mythical Pokemon in this way.

Pokemon Sword and Shield have shiny Pokemon, many new additions thanks to the expansions, and now a new mythical Pokemon. Catching them all is getting more difficult, but for many Pokemon players who simply love to collect, that is certainly not a bad thing. The more the merrier.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are available now on the Nintendo Switch.
