Now that Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have been out for over two weeks now, many players are now exploring what the post-game has to offer. Naturally, the post-game in Sword and Shield is when players are going to be flooded with the game’s currencies and resources, and there are plenty of ways to make some easy cash that can be accessed fairly early on in the adventure.

Players who make it to the post-game content of Sword and Shield can get some pretty neat items for their accomplishments. Items like the shiny charm, which increases the chances of hatching shiny Pokemon, the Battle Tower, and some great ways to make a lot of money are all housed within the game’s post-game content. However, there’s also a pretty simple and easy way to make a decent chunk of cash before becoming the champion.

Updated April 12th, 2022 by Russ Boswell: Pokemon Sword & Shield has been overshadowed for some thanks to the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, as well as Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Pair this with the news that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be released in the near future, and it's easy to see why some players have moved on from Sword & Shield. That said, there are still many gamers out there that are just now starting their journey through the Galar region. During this adventure, players may come across treasures strewn throughout wild areas. To better showcase where players can get mushrooms and pearls in Pokemon Sword & Shield, as well as where to sell them, and what other valuables players may be able to find, the following guide has been updated with even more information.

Selling Items in Stow-on-Side

One of the simplest ways to make a bit of extra spending money is through the market stalls in Stow-on-Side. The Stow-on-Side area is home to some nifty side activities like the professor who can revive the four Pokemon fossils in the game. More importantly for this guide, Stow-on-Side houses a handful of market stalls that buy and sell rare goods.

There are two main stalls that players will want to look out for in Stow-on-Side and each can be found to the left of the Pokemon Center. While the right stall offers players the chance to buy rare Pokemon held items each day, the left stall will offer to buy different types of pearls and mushrooms for much more than the normal selling price.

Finding and Selling Treasures

The left stall clerk can offer to buy any type of pearl or mushroom, including Balm Mushrooms and Pearl Strings which will fetch an incredible amount of money. Though players can sell these items to the clerk in the Pokemon Center right across from the new name rater, it is far more beneficial to check with the left stall in Stow-on-Side to see what specific item he is buying that day.

The main way players will find these rare treasures is through Sword and Shield’s ever-changing Wild Area. These treasures can be found through the sparkling spots found on the ground in the Wild Area or through random NPCs around the map. For pearls, players will naturally want to search near bodies of water and for NPCs holding fishing rods. For mushrooms, players will want to search at the base of trees or in secluded or dark areas.

Though finding these treasures does require a bit of time and luck, the Wild Area houses a decent amount of every kind of treasure. Additionally, sparkling spots will refresh over time. That being said, players will have naturally accumulated a decent stash of treasure by the time they reach Stow-on-Side. So, provided they’ve saved them instead of selling them, they can make a nice sum of money in the tiny mountain town.

Other Ways To Obtain Pearls And Mushrooms

Although players will usually find these valuable treasures littering the Wild Areas, and in certain zones within the Isle of Armor DLC, there are other ways that trainers can get their hands on Mushrooms and Pearls. Although it's usually much easier for players to simply search around a particular area for the treasures they seek, there are some Pokemon that are capable of using the Pick-Up ability, which will give them a chance to snag an item should they not be holding anything at the end of a battle.

It's possible for a pokemon with this ability to grab a Big Mushroom, although it is rather rare and this isn't necessarily a good "farming tactic." However, those that are looking for additional items should consider using a Pokemon with Pick-Up. Here's a look at the creatures in Sword & Shield that have the Pick-Up ability:

  • Alolan Meowth
  • Galarian Meowth
  • Bunnelby
  • Diggersby
  • Dedenne
  • Galarian Zigzagoon
  • Galarian Linoone
  • Zigzagoon
  • Linoone
  • Lillipup
  • Munchlax
  • Pumpkaboo (All Sizes)
  • Gourgeist (All Sizes)

There are certain Pokemon that can also be found carrying some of the treasures that players are seeking. Those that are attempting to farm Mushrooms and Pearls should know that certain Pokemon can sometimes be holding these items and players can use their own Pokemon with a move like Thief or Trick to pilfer the treasure away. Here's a look at the Pokemon in Sword and Shield that are capable of holding a Mushroom or Pearl when encountered:

  • Morelull (Tiny Mushroom, Big Mushroom)
  • Shiinotic (Tiny Mushroom, Big Mushroom)
  • Shellder (Pearl, Big Pearl)
  • Cloyster (Pearl, Big Pearl)

Here's a list of Pokemon that may hold other treasures and what they carry:

  • Solrock (Stardust)
  • Lunatone (Stardust)
  • Wingull (Pretty Feather)
  • Pelipper (Pretty Feather)
  • Combee (Honey)
  • Cutiefly (Honey)
  • Ribombee (Honey)

Here is a handy list of all the Treasures (sellable valuables) that players may come across in their adventures through Galar:

  • Stardust
  • Star Piece
  • Comet Shard
  • Nugget
  • Big Nugget
  • Pearl
  • Big Pearl
  • Pearl String
  • Tiny Mushroom
  • Big Mushroom
  • Balm Mushroom
  • Honey
  • Rare Bone
