The Pokemon Company has just announced a new giveaway event for Pokemon Sword and Shield, a Shiny Amoongus that will be offered to players starting on August 9th. There is one catch, however: the mystery gift will only be to given away to players in Korea.

The Amoonguss being given away matches the Amoonguss used by World Champion Senior Top 4 player  in the 2019 Pokemon Sword and Shield World Championships. It has the moves Clear Smog, Spore, Protect and Rage Powder and comes at Level 50.

It is a shame that it will only be given away in Korea, however. Amoongus has been a very popular Pokemon ever since it was first introduced 10 years ago in Pokemon Black and White. The Pokemon was heavily used competitively back in Pokemon VGC 2015, as well as 2018 and 2019. It's incredibly varied and strong move-set allows for some very competitively viable strategies.

The mushroom Pokemon is a dual grass/poison type, with Pokeballs imprinted on its skin. It shares the same typing as many other popular Pokemon such as Venusaur and Vileploom, but the thing that really sets it apart is its excellent moveset - namely, it's access to the move Spore. The affect of Spore is the same as Sleeping Powder, Hypnosis, or Sing, but its main differing factor is the fact that it has a 100 percent accuracy. Paired with Amoonguss's great stats and movepool, the Pokemon becomes one of the best grass types in the entire game.

Despite gaining quite a bit of controversy and criticism from longtime fans, Pokemon Sword and Shield have gone on to become the fastest selling titles on the Nintendo Switch, as well as the fastest selling mainline Pokemon titles with the games reaching over 16 millions sales in just their first two months following their release in November of last year.

The games are still receiving additional content, with a Season Pass currently in the middle of releasing. The first half of the Season Pass, entitled The Isle of Armor, was released on June 17, 2020. The second half of the Season Pass, called The Crowd Tundra, is set to release later this Fall for Sword and Shield.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
